'Lo Sugar :)

Oh, Definitely!
[before the government decided to stamp out private ownership, I had an interesting box of weapons; I used to shoot targets].

My brother managed to convince my mum to buy him an air rifle when he was about 10. She went to the ironmongers, where they sold these things, and asked: "What do you shoot with them?" anxiously, and the ironmonger said: "Slugs, madam." She was very excited that she was going to get help at last with the garden pests. :)

'Slugs, madam' reminds me of Queen Victoria enquiring what could be done about the sparrows flying around inside The Crystal Palace at The Great Exhibition. 'Sparrowhawks, Ma'am,' the Duke of Wellington is reputed to have replied.

Holland & Holland, please

The old rivalry, eh? :)

I did once own a Holland & Holland coat. When, after many many years, I was about to pass it on to a charity shop, a neighbour swooped on it. 'That's got another 20 years in it, that has,' he said. I wonder if he is still wearing it?

I am still wearing my ten year old Barbour, although TBH, it's not very waterproof any more :(. I had this idea that you could weatherproof them again when they get old, but I think that process is so expensive you may as well buy a new one.

The Fella bought me the coat for my birthday one year. He assured me he had looked up online and found a specialist shop in an unlikely location of the city. After we had wandered around looking for it for a while, I looked at a red and white striped pole outside a barber's shop and asked how he was spelling Barbour. :D

I think you can get a wax spray for those coats, and it's not too expensive.
See here, for example.

Reminds me of the book Princess Smartypants, in which one of the impossible tasks set to the Prince who wanted to marry her was that he:
