I seem to recall that both William Hartnell (First Doctor) and Patrick Troughton (Second Doctor) were in black and white. Or is it just my memory that is reverting to black and white? :)

You remember right.
Colour TV (625 lines) didn't get going till a while later (405 line TV was still fairly new in some remote parts of the UK).

I remember my Dad, who was adamantly against using credit cards or having a loan for anything except a house or a new car, borrow something like $350 from the bank (huge money in the early 1960's) for a new television just so he could watch Bonanza in color.

I was all of maybe seven or eight years old and sure didn't complain since it made Saturday morning cartoons a whole lot better too. :D

We were so poor, we went out at night, with our fold-up chairs and watched (black and white) TV in the appliance shop windows.
