I imagine things may have changed a bit in the last five or six years since that was written.
It may not be NASA, but there are at least two firms with their eye on some space prizes.
See this bit of history: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSmNid9L4fo

It's sad, and revealing, that American space flight is now the province of a few private sector billionaires. But the future looks bright in China.

Ah, the wonderful 'Buster Crabbe'.
There's a magic joke in "Buck Rodgers in the 25 century" : See here.

That is hilarious, although you have to wonder just how many people actually caught it.

Probably one of the most unexpected cameos of all times was Nixon making an appearance on the infamous 'Laugh In' when he was running for President in 1968.

That few seconds of Mr. Uptight Conservative letting his hair down probably got him more votes from the under 30 crowd than anything else he could have done.

Donald Trump's hair.

Well if you want a flame thrower, how about a shuttle launch?

The one thing that hasn't changed in more than fifty years of space travel, as John Glenn once said, "Basically we let them strap us to a hundred boxcars of dynamite and light the fuse."

.

I never quite fathomed why it is necessary to break the sound barrier going UP.

Also from John Glenn: 'As I hurtled through space, one thought kept crossing my mind: every part of this rocket was supplied by the lowest bidder.' :)

Hello, Honey :)

Are you sure that's from Sweet Charity? The photograph looks like it was taken at about nine o'clock on a Friday at my local. :)

Looks also like the line of hookers I passed last night in Chengdu near my hotel. (Except they were much younger and prettier).

If you're around, I think we can count on things getting saucy - in many ways ;)

Must get on with my filet de boeuf en croute now! (Elizabeth David recipe :))

Ok now give me the list of ingredients - in French of course, my little sauce bottle!
I love it when you talk French to me.

Mais, chéri, Elizabeth David is vairrry Engleesh! In fact, she is the person who introduced the British to French cooking.

'Owever, just for you, I will say some Frrrench vocabulaire:

Bisous bisous, mon petit chou. Donnes-moi une suce sur ta canne à sucre ;), un gros bisous de ta chatte.

Ooh lala! tu as une très grosse saucisse là :p

PS, the filet de boeuf was perfect! red in the middle and oozing juice as soon as I cut into the flaky crust. I had the leftovers of a bottle of Chateau-Neuf-du-Pape with it, and also used a bit of the wine to make stewed red cabbage

Hello, Honey. :)

The very thought of it has me salivating.
