Fred Trump, Donald's father, lived to 93 years old dying in 1999 from pneumonia. However, long before he died his mental faculties had been slipping. As early as 1991, he was diagnosed with senile dementia. By 1993 he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He insisted on continuing to work so his family built him a fake office and made him think he was in charge. His memory was deteriorating. He was not able to retain information after asked about it as soon as 30 minutes later. He was also not able to recall his own birthday. He would mix up or completely forget details, names and events. This was noted by his early mid 80s and even documented in court. Family members say his memory and mental health had been going into decline before the documented records. Diagnosis is never immediate. (There's also claims of Donald exploiting his father's weakened mental state when he wrested control of the estate from the rest of the family.)
In what seems to be an ironic twist, Donald mocked his own father for cognitive decline.
