One of my son's works at a place that is on a four day schedule. Loves it.

I'll bet you argued against the 5 day work week when it became the "standard" work week. Am I right?

Tell me, since I have also worked a four-day shift for a very large enterprise, how does that work out for your mom and pop or other small entrpenuer startup and how many more breaks must be included and what happens to productivity when you hire part-time fill-ins and, why would you even hire full-time people anyway knowing that? It saves you in benefit costs to only hire part-time.

Ideas like this are floated by people with no business experience who "know" what it takes to run a business to benefit the worker, but never the owner (the risk-taker) or the shareholder (the investment class, retirees)...
 
Four day weeks were introduced here under labour in the 70s. It was brought in when the economy was tanking. It meant that companies reduced their salaried costs but having less of a factory workforce working. They tried to drive productivity at lower cost. It didn't work and the five day week returned.

So basically they're doing a circa 40hour week. A four day week would be a circq 32 hour week. Ha ha.
 
When you have no valid point, then you engage in the person.

For the record, I've even had construction jobs that were seven days a week to meet a deadline, but it was a well-paid workweek that I could have walked away from at any time. None of which is the issue.

The issue is a one-size fits all government mandate from at least one person who, other than politics, has never even held a real job.

They are doing a four day work week. 8 hours a shift. When they dropped the 8 hours,they gave an across the board raise, that was 5 years ago I think ( could be only 4).

City of Toronto implemented a 35 hour work week back in 2001 for certain employees. (for example)

Standard work week used to be a 60 hour week, which dropped to 40 hours. Many today are at 38.5 or 35. Some are at 32.

Laughing at how a business employs it people is pretty ignorant.
 
I know plenty of people who work four day workweeks. Makes for a better weekend.

Today's work force is driving the bus. With the retirement of the Boomers, it's getting hard to fill the jobs. Hell after COVID,just trying to get them to return to the office is an issue.

People sitting around the keyboard trying to claim what works, and will only work is bullshit.

It's unlikely any government will actively push for a four day week. They need gdpr to grow, not shrink.
