I don't care what my wife says, my kid is eating McDonalds over my cold, cold body.

I grew up on Happy Meals, pizza, and mac & cheese with cut up hotdogs.

Look how I turned out.

Skinny, intelligent, and cool?
Pass the Big Mac my friend.

Right now we're having our Mandatory veganism vs. Letting our kid decide.

I'm sorry but when I agreed to live with her I said I'd never buy my wife the things I won't eat(A pledge that ended on, I believe, our first date while living together)

But I can make my kids be good people, can't I?

Lavender i have to agree. i remember there was some research done into the nature of 'treats' and 'forbiddens' on tv here (in the UK) a while back. it's the whole locked door principle. lock the door, tell someone they are not allowed to go in and they will seek to do so... take pandora's box (if you will). as with that is it with food. i think moderation and balence are the keys, not banning or treating. i am, finally, trying to sort out my own attitudes to foods that are not so great for me. it's taking a while but there is light at the end of this tunnel. hopefully i shan't bring my kids up with 'saturday sweets' or chocolate treats, instead inbue them with the ability to recognise good, enjoyable food (nutritious and delicious!) at 50 paces... we'll see... check back with me in 10years time :D

I hardly ever had fast food (as compared to everyone else I knew). One of the good things my mom did was make sure our dinners were well-balanced. Dad cooked, too.

Now I love fast food. But I always treat to eat well balanced meals.

Just adding my 2 cents. Interpret freely.

is veganism good for kids? ...must point out here that of the two vegans i know one scares me and the other is always sickening for something.
i am vegi (urgh meat, rather than poor pig) and will not be vegi on conception... since i figure all is better than limited. for the sake of a life inside me i would happily forsake many things

can i interpret that as 'good male role model' and healthy attitude to food?
please?

hehehe

new parents.. I just love them

Kid #1- You boil the nipples and bottles, boil the water to fix the formula (if mom doesn't breast feed), wash the pacifer if it falls on the ground, baby proof the house. Have high hopes of "the perfect child", only use the best soaps, diapers and only buy it the nicest clothing.

Kid #2- You hope the bottle that was found in the couch isn't to old to give to the screaming brat that won't sleep, find one of the many "lost" pacifers that the dog has chewed on and duct tapes it to babies face. Realize that kids are not perfect and don't act how you want nor thought they would. Figure out it's best to use disposable diapers and only dresses the child when you are going outside in sub zero weather.

As far as McDonalds food.. limit it.. but don't forbid it.

It's not as bad as everyone thinks/says. I have 3 kids that have been raised on it (within limits). Their father is in the process now of buying the 5 stores that he has worked at for over 20 years. They are well rounded, healthy active children. None are overweight.. and none have horrible side effects from eating fast food.

veganism is fine for children.. you just have to make sure they get the proper amounts of the needed nutrients

I have a 7 year old vegan child.. her choice.. Dr approved diet is working great so far.

vegans, the other white meat..
if all you eat is vegatables, you ARE the food.

My In-Laws hate me because of this very topic.

My wife and I agreed that we wouldn't force any religious beliefs on our kids...but if asked, we would try our best to answer their questions on religion. I don't understand the rationale that says because your parents are Catholic, Jew, Baptist etc..., that you are automatically the same. We didn't baptize or christen any of our kids. If they decide to do that later in life, that will be their choice.

My In-Laws, the Bible thumping hypocrits they are, don't like this idea. They think that your religion should be decided for you at birth.

** Freakygurl, you are so right on the Child #1, Child #2 bit....by the time we got to #4, we just said "Change your own diapers."
