Britney came home sobbing. The tears that she'd held back during his violent spoken assault finally fell and cascaded in rivers down her cheeks. She'd never been so madly in love with someone. And she'd never had her heart broken this badly.

Mike was in the military. Said he was breaking up with her now to spare them both the pain of losing each other later. Said the distance would be too much of a challenge to overcome... But if you really love someone, any obstacle can be leaped over right? That's what she'd always thought.

It was likely the over dramatics of a teenage girl that had her so broken. She entered her house in a huge huff and slammed the door hard. Thankfully, no one but her step brother was home so her parents wouldn't yell at her for causing such a commotion, and generally her step brother left her alone. She didn't even bother to acknowledge her step brother's presence in the kitchen, on his weekend home from college, but bounded straight to her room and slammed that door too.

She cranked some music and flopped on her bed, allowing herself to feel the pain and believe that it was the end of the world, at least for now.

Erick was startled by the door when his step sister barged in. He had been scouring the kitchen for a midnight snack and kinda expected to be alone. He just stood and watched as Britney ran past him p to her room and slamme the door.

Should I do something? He thought. He didn't know Britney very well even though they had been living in the same house for almost two years. They were way past the age that they could become familyneasily and he had gone to college a year after she moved in. she was always nice to him, and was definitely nice to look at, but it always felt like neither knew how to interact with each other.

He decided he might as well give it a try since he would be returning to school the next morning anyway

He slowly walked up to her door and knocked gently.

"Hey Britney, you ok?" And then knocked a little louder to try and get over the sound if the music.

At first, Britney didn't hear the approach of Erick. Her face was in her pillow and her make up was running down her face. The music blared loudly, pumping the loud, boy bashing, angry songs to the world. She vaguely heard a voice speaking to her, so she rolled over onto her back and lowered the music by a little. She knew by the timbre it was Erick, asking her if she were okay. What did he think? Of course she wasn't okay! She hopped up from the bed and wrenched open her bedroom door.

"Just leave me alone!" she spat in his concerned face, voice chocked by sobs. The image of a melo-dramatic teen, Britney stood there in a yellow sundress that ended just above her knees with her hair a mess and mascara running down her cheeks. She was a petite girl, but possessed an hour glass shape. Her hair was a light dirty blonde and pulled back into a braid that was quickly coming undone. Her lips were pouty, and smudged a light, summery pink. Britney folded her arms across her chest as she stared at Erick, had to incline her head upwards in order to meet his eyes.

Erick was a little stunned when he saw Britney. Both her ragged appearance and aggressive attitude took him aback. He stood there for a second in a simple v neck undershirt and some soft pj pants trying to figure out what to do.
He was frustrated at her attitude, but took a deep breath and decided to see if he could help.

"I'm not going anywhere, you look like you've been through hell. What happened? Do you wanna talk about it?"

She supposed she should be grateful he cared, but at the same time she just wished he'd go away. They weren't friends. They barely even spoke! It was not like was a real brother to her, and even if he were, why would she talk about her boy problems with him? Britney sighed though, for he was the only one available. It was nearly 1 in the morning on a Sunday night. Her friends, as supportive as they were, hadn't replied to her texts. They were probably sleeping. They did have school tomorrow after all. Britney herself wouldn't have been able to get around staying out so late past curfew had her parents actually been home this weekend, but as it were they were off on some long weekend getaway.

She looked into Erick's eyes, and found his concern to be genuine. "All right, come in," she muttered, opening her door for him. Her room was typical of that of a teenage girl. Everything was in it's place, well nearly, some bras were lined up on her dresser and some old forgotten homework lay scattered about the floor, but other than that it was in working order.

Britney plopped on her bed. There was enough room for Erick to sit down if he chose to. With a huge sigh she admitted, "Mike broke up with me." They'd been going out for nearly a year now, and the break up had come unexpectedly to Britney. She was devastated.
