Emma had just left the grocery store, which she had only gone to at the request of her sister who was having a hard time after her divorce and losing her job. She didn't even know her sister very well, as they were almost twelve years apart and had not been very close even when she was young. But being the kind of girl she was, she did this favor for her sister without complaining and with all the haste of a matter twice its importance. She was distracted by some window displays in the shops she passed and clumsily bumped into something vaguely human-shaped.

"I'm really sorry about that. I should really watch where I'm going more often."

She dusted off her shorts(lucky her that she hadn't worn a skirt today after that!) and socks and picked up her sister's groceries before she looked at the person she'd run into.

Jake

Jake found himself wandering down the side walk deep in thought considering his life up until this point. Dealing with the divorce had taken a lot out of him and it was only his students that kept him grounded and sane.

Suddenly he was almost knocked to the ground by someone. Taking a step back to keep from falling he looked down and saw a cute young girl scrambling around trying to dust herself off and retrieve fallen grocery items.

He immediately felt bad and bent down to assist her with the groceries. He looked at her as he held several cans of something and thought she looked familiar. She had to be a student perhaps not one of his but at least the same school. He had always made it a priority to remember names and faces with those names but lately he had been distracted and the school year was just underway.

She was attractive though she seemed a bit rough around the edges no make that rough through and through. "I'm so sorry about that" he said, as he attempted to hand her the fallen cans.

Emma smiled politely at the show of kindness of the man and took the cans he handed her.

"Thank you. You really don't have to do this since it was my fault they fell in the first place."

She got a good look at him and felt her pulse start to quicken and the temperature of her face start to rise. He was exactly the kind of guy she usually fell for. Far to old for her, tall, good-looking in a family sitcom/average joe kind of way, and with some of the prettiest blue eyes she'd ever seen. She became nervous and felt the wheels in her mind stop turning as she went quiet and averted her eyes from the new enticing stranger.

Jake

As he handed her the cans back their eyes locked for just a second and she seemed, was it surprise, fear, no something else but he wasn't sure what. Their hands touched as she took the cans her skin was warm, soft and smooth. They felt nice on his own hands and though it seemed she paused a moment longer than needed to take the cans.

"It was no one's fault just a simple accident I'm just glad your not injured. You are uninjured I hope."

She was a pretty girl with deep longing eyes that appeared to make promises though promises of what he could not be sure. Her hair was black as night except for the pink highlights which did some to soften her rather rough exterior. He was unable to keep from checking the rest of her out though he did it quickly and hopefully escaped notice. His mind instantly liked what he saw and he felt a small twitch in his crotch. If only he was much younger but she would just have to remain a fantasy.

Before she could answer he blurted out a little to quickly, "Look I feel bad about this and all but if I can help you get those groceries home or help in anyway let me know?"

What was he saying? That sounded so lame and stupid. He closed his mouth before he said something else that he would regret and what if she was a student? Not a good idea to be having any sexual thoughts about a student though it was hard not to considering how they dressed and pranced around these days.

Normally this wouldn't have been an issue but with his divorce perhaps he just needed some female company both in and out the bedroom.

She didn't quite know what to do with what he said, but before her mind had a chance to fully process it, her mouth blurted out an answer.

"Ah...Um...Of course. That sounds good. The groceries...home...I mean..."

She mentally slapped herself at how silly and unstable she must have sounded.

"I mean...if you like, you can come with me to drop the groceries off and then we can get coffee or something. To apologize for almost knocking you over and all..."

She still sounded awkward, but at least it was somewhat coherent. She hoped that she could at least find out something about him before her age scared him off.

Jake

She was actually agreeing to accept a ride and now was wanting to go for a coffee with him. His mind screamed, no buy her a cab ride, as this could be bad news but he was not listening to that part of him. It was the other more deviant part of the brain that had control of his body and speech.

"I would be glad to give you a ride and accompany you for a coffee. My car is just across the street." He led her to a older model 4-wheel drive Suburban and opened the back helping her to put in the groceries. He then opened the passenger door holding it for her to get in before climbing into the driver seat.

"So where to", he asked? He looked over at her once more taking in her body this time eyes focused on her breasts which were not small but not large actually they were just right. Once more he mentally scolded himself for thinking of her in such a fashion but he just could not get it out of his mind.

She couldn't comprehend how he hadn't refused her, but she wasn't going to complain. She was grateful for the ride even if things didn't progress any further than this...

"1302 Winston Avenue. It's the only house with a green door. It's hard to miss it."

She looked back at him and caught his eye again. She felt her face heat once again as she looked out the window.

Jake

She gave him the address which was only a short drive and he pulled out into traffic. His heart beat a little faster than normal and he honestly wasn't sure what to say during the drive and a awkward silence settled upon them.

"Feel free to turn on the radio if you like." Anything to break the silence he thought.

"I don't think that I have introduced myself yet, I'm Jake." He turned to look at her but this time focused in on her eyes avoiding looking at her breasts.

She looked back but did not fully meet his eyes.

"I'm Emma. Nice to meet you."

She searched her mind for something to say but found it pointless when the car turned onto her street. By the time they started a decent conversation, they'd be stopped in her driveway.

Jake

Emma that's a nice name, Jake thought to himself. "Nice to meet you Emma." They turned onto her street and soon he saw the house with the green door and parked in the driveway.

He opened the back and hesitated, "You need help taking those inside or do you want me to wait for you if you still want to go for coffee that is?"

One part of him, the adult responsible part was thinking change your mind. The other part was praying she wouldn't. How old could she be no more than 20 perhaps as young as what 19 or 18? Perhaps he should ask but the time did not seem appropriate at the moment.

But he would certainly ask her during the drive to the coffee shop if she still wanted to go.

"I-I can handle it myself. It'll only take a couple of moments to put the groceries up and grab some extra money...Then we can go for coffee."

Emma opened the door and went around to the back of the car to get the groceries and took them inside. She then went upstairs to tell her sister that she was leaving and grabbed a purse and a few things from her 'secret drawer.' Once she had everything she needed, including the money she'd come in for in the first place, she practically flew downstairs and out the door. She hoped she hadn't kept Jake waiting long as she locked the door behind herself and walked back to his car.

Jake

Jake waited nervously for her return and it didn't take long as he saw her bounding down the driveway and opened the door to his car. Once she was seated he asked "Ready" without actually waiting for a response.

He put the car in reverse and headed off in the direction of a small coffee shop that he liked. It was out of the way not overly crowded and had booths that offered people a little privacy. Actually a lot of privacy which he thought might be a good idea at this juncture.

Once again it was actually only a short drive and he remained silent as they drove windows down enjoying the warm weather. Pulling into the parking lot he got out and lead her into the shop and they seated themselves in a booth around the corner from the bar and to go register. The place was fairly empty other than a few people at the to go register and few seated up front near the window.

With coffee ordered he looked across the table at her and asked, "Emma I hate to ask a lady her age but how old are you?"

Emma felt a little nervous about answering his question and worried that this would be as far as they got if he knew her age.

"I'm eighteen...Why do you want to know?"

She was tense as she awaited the verdict of either rejection or acceptance.
