I can't believe I am saying this in Seattle, but we have pretty much had a drought in the past year. We are very concerneed about having enough water for the summer. Today we are getting our first rain in awhile. We surely need it.

(((((((((((Jacqline))))))))))))) good luck. I know how bad those droughts can be.

We haven't had a tornado in years. Some have come close but always turn away from us. Crossing fingers. We don't flood like alot of the areas so if we get rain it won't be too bad. We got a little last night and supposed to get a little today and the big chance is for Thurs night/Fri and all weekend. Fun holiday weekend. But I will be working through Sunday anyway! So I guess it doesn't matter. I know in a couple of months we will be wanting a good rain storm to cool things off a bit. We have actually had some mild summers the last couple of years also. Crossing fingers again! Have a great hump day!

Stayed in Seattle for 4 nights many years ago, and we were teased that we didn't see a drop of rain!:D

You can have some of the water that's been dumping on us in Omaha! We had lightning and hail on Monday, but then the weather turned lovely!

However, we're expecting more storms over the holiday weekend. I'm still not used to all the "watches" and "warnings"!!

Living here in Tx for all my life, the watches don't bother me, especially since the weathermen tells us when it is way off, not like it was in our own backyard. But then when they start saying we are under Tornado Warning, I take note. When they say we are under a Thunderstorm warning or Flooding possibility warning I also take note of those, but not as much so. We get the thunderstorms alot, unless they have golf ball size hail, then I take note. Icy conditions I definitely do, I don't go out in ICE!!!!!!!

Hope ya'll have a wonderful long weekend. We are supposed to be getting storms this weekend also, Jenny!

We got our rain yesterday (more like a mist) and it will be around through the Memorial Weekend. Actually that doesn't bother me a bit. The temperature dropping to around 60 through Sunday is predicted. That part is a bit hard to take.

I will keep positive thoughts for you that the tornadoes stay away from you always.

{{{{{{{{{{{Jenny}}}}}}}}}}}}Good to see you as always.

We rarely get a thunderstorm but when we do, they don't seem to be as severe as the ones in the Midwest. I remember when I was taking a tour in New Orleans. A thunderstorm started and they got us in the bus and took us back to our hotel. I wonder if they are more severe there.

New Orleans gets really bad storms, it almost destroy the town before and they also get hurricanes coming off the Gulf. My aunt lived there and their house was kind of a 3 story, you walk in the front door and to the left was some steps that led down a level and one of my cousins used that area as a bedroom and then you had the living room, kitchen, laundry room on the first floor and then the bedrooms upstairs.

New Orleans is beautiful. Some interesting things I found out when I visited there was that they only have mosoleums because the water is so close to the surface. I was stunned to hear you say that there were stairs leading downstairs because the tour told us that they didn't have basements because of the same reason.

They also told us that you won't find many older homes with closets because they used to tax people by the amount of doors. This is where the armoire became popular. They most likely have the best French food found in the US. I can still taste it 15 years later.

I was shocked when I saw the news last night and saw that we have had 6 twisters so far this year in WA state. They said we never have that many in a whole year much less 6 months. Earlier in the week, it took a huge roof totally off a barn. This is big stuff for us who are not used to this at all.

I should have shut up. We are really getting our rain now:D

I loved going to the French Quarters as a child. I have never been since I was an adult, will have to put that on my list of things to do. I love going to Cafe Demond and having the chickory coffee and benigns, they are to die for!!!!!!

Hi Toni!

We survived another major storm on Friday, and the rest of the weekend was fairly calm (except still very windy!).

http://www.5starpicks.com/Weather/images/meyut4899/meyuanim.gif

It's been a rough storm season all around us, but we have been very fortunate. Just a lot of wind, and a lot of fallen branches on the grounds.

More storms are heading this way tomorrow night.

Oman is so calm! Both he and our cat slept right through the nasty thunder, wind and lightning we had Friday night!!

LOL I went to bed with my clothes on, thinking I'd be prepared if the tornado sirens went off!

I've never been to New Orleans, but it does sound so very interesting (and spooky!).

Hope we all have a good week!:rose:

Glad ya'll survived the storms. I was worried about ya'll.

My aunt lived in Metarie, which is just outside of New Orleans. I have not been since I was a kid. I always wanted to go to the French Quarter and check out Bourbon Street, etc... my mom never wanted me to do that! They went to a place called Pat O'Brien's and they said it was really nice and they got some kind of drinks there, and had souvenoir glasses. I think we still have them somewhere. Not sure. It might have finally got broken after all those years. I remember when I think I was 8 we went and I had the coolest doll, still have it, not in real good shape but I had never seen one like it before. One end it had a blonde headed girl with a bonnet and she had a light green dress with flowers, I called her Goldie Locks, not sure if that is actually what it was supposed to be or not, but then you flipped her over and under her dress was an Aunt Jemima doll with the scarf. It is so cool. If you ever make it down there, you have to visit the French Quarters, it is very old, lots of antiques, that is what attracted my aunt down there, and you have to go to Cafe Dumond! And also go the plantations tour. There are alot of old plantations down there that have been preserved and some that you can go in and tour them, some just look it. I remember one in particular, it has always stood out in my mind. It had beautiful landscaping, simple but very pretty, there was a maids quarters or something. It is probably as big as my house and if you look around all you see is the road and trees. But when you go on the porch there is a mirror that goes across the top of the porch and it is tilted slightly and you can see boats on the Mississippi River! It is sooooooooo cool! Also when my aunt first moved down there she figured that if that was going to be her home she needed to learn about the town and the history and she went to the biggest grave yard there. And she pretty much learned it all and she would take us when we went down there. We also used to go "crawdad" fishing. I loved to catch them, but then she boiled them and made gumbo and I didn't want any part of that! Partly, I don't really care for most seafood and she made things way too spicy. Too much so. I love spices too but not the way she did it!

One thing I remember from the tour of the mansions is that the ovens are outside. That place is so hot and humid that they could never stand cooking inside on top of all that. At least they were courteous enough to do that for the cooks.

The St. Charles place on the Monopoly board is an actual street in New Orleans. the tour took us there.

The hotel warned us never to go anywhere at night without taking a taxi. Crime is high there.

The French Quarter/ Bourbon Street is wonderful for the music and shops, food, etc. but watch out for the peddlers and the children that try to spit on your shoe. They do that and they then want to shine them for a price.

This is the first place that I experienced descrimination. In the north, here, we treat everyone the same as we always have. I talked to some bellmen there asking them about how the basketball finals were going (at the time, the Seattle Supersonics were in the finals.....now that was a LONG time ago) and they looked at me like I had just broken the biggest commandment in the world. It didn't feel good to feel that kind of hate.
