lol... the ultimate answer is 42.

It is impossible for both the ultimate answer and the ultimate question to be known at the same time in the same universe. If it happened, the universe would disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarrely inexplicable. It might have already happened. ;)

Word.

Finally, I've seen it. I liked it. It kept most of the cleverness from the book, and was very entertaining. I laughed on more than one occasion. Looks like there could be a sequal with the way they ended it. I really would like to see The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. I hope so much that they make it. Oh, and yes... I brought my towel.

(That sounded a little off for me, I just woke up)

I had been just about to look up this thread....

I went opening night and I swear about half the theater had their towels. Of course I also knew most of the people there (I live in a small town) and I would have expected no less of them. I really liked it and now I have the worst urge to go and reread the books. Movies always make me do that. At least, for a few weeks I might actually be able to find the time to read! Yay!!
Anyway, if you haven't seen the movie yet, you should if for no other reason than Mos Def was awesome.

From what I remember, the movie won't be out in Denmark before in August, so I'm happy that it's out in London, when I'm there the last weekend in May! So watching it, is definately on my to do list while I'm there!

Wanna to share some popcorn to watch it....

I promise not to eat it all...

*tsk tsk*

Are you sure it's a good idea to :p at a Dom who have a cane?

Here there be spoilers.... Not too many, but a few.

I went with bronn and kat Sunday night, and we met some friends there. There were lots of towels in the audience. As I was looking around, I wondered if there were more or less towels than are usually seen at a porno theater. I've never been to a porno theater, but if I do, I'll be sure to count the towels....

The movie itself rocked. One thing that really sort of impressed me was the little tweaks they tossed in there, unobtrusively. Like Arthur's cell phone. It was mostly true to the book, and again, continuity was great. A lot of times, when you movie-ize a book, especially one as varied as that, the story line suffers as they try to be sure to include all the best bits of the book. Did it seem to anyone else that Ford's bar scene (when Zaphod and Arthur were trying to get the co-ordinates for Magretha) was a little bit of an homage to the infamous Star Wars bar scene? I sorta did.

Anyway, we enjoyed it. One thing I heard a lot from the reviews was that people who hadn't read the book would be lost, that there were too many inside jokes. One person in our party hadn't read them, and asked about the towels pre-movie. Afterwords, she got the joke and didn't have any problems following the plot. There are a lot of inside jokes, but since most of them are poking fun at well-known cultural icons, it works for those who are unfamiliar with the book.

I went a saw it this weekend. It was fun. Unfortunately, I had to go by myself, but that's another story.

The movie was pretty good. There were some things missing that I wished had made it in, and some stuff that I didn't like that had been included, but overall I thought the movie kept the flavor of the books pretty well. Mos Def rocked as Ford and Arthur was dead on.

I wanted to see it opening night - but I hate the talkative crowds so opted not to go.

I'm going tonight, and bringing my towel. I'm glad fans as well as nonfans enjoyed the movie.

I also feel bad for all the movie clerks that see us idiots carrying towels - at least they don't have to ask what movie we're seeing, and ticket buying is that much easier.

Eh, I didn't like it so much. It was okay, but not great, IMHO. The visuals were completely off from what I expected - Zaphod's head was in the wrong place, for one thing...and what the fuck was up with Marvin?! The one from the BBC series (which I haven't seen but am planning to get on DVD, it's only $25) was featured in the line at the Vogon detention center, and THAT is how I pictured Marvin. Not that infantile piece of crap. (A couple of years ago I drove a silver 1983 Chrysler New Yorker that was the crankiest boat you ever did see. I called it Marvin!) Arthur was good, Alan Rickman was good. Ford wasn't what I expected...I always thought of him as a bit more neurotic...like he's just putting up a front of normality but really he's as looney as everybody else in the story.

The one good thing is that I am now replaying the Infocom game, which I loved many years ago. Except I've had to go back because I missed the atomic vector plotter. Damn!

Yes, I feel the same way. I wish they would make a movie from the book "Stranger in a Strange Land" Now that would be a movie to make. Wish I could find a copy of that one. Love movies just dont have the time. I remember when h2g2 came out. Did I just give my age away? oopps

There was Starship Troopers, which was not the best adaptation of a Heinlein book. Are there any others?

Strange, that no one has done Stranger.
