For Our Military

Ok.. I'm putting my 2 cents in.. <grin>

I have to way that I cannot agree with every little thing that our president (whether it's George W. or what) decides to do.

I will say that I like President Bush a lot better than I did Clinton.

He isn't afraid to take on the challenge of a fight. I honestly believe that he has the hardest job in the Country. Look at what he's had to deal with. Under his watch, we were attacked. We had (& still have) people dissing him & Americans for what we stand for. For our right to freedom. Our right to free speech.
To pursue happiness. He did the best thing he (& his cabinet) thought to do. & personally I agree with him. He has balls & I admire that. I do believe we had every right to go over there & kick some butt. Because it wasn't nipped in the bud years ago, we have people around the world thinking we'll just let them walk all over us... let them ASSASSINATE thousands of our people. That's bullshit.

No matter which man becomes president, I, as an American, will support him. The PEOPLE elected him, & he deserves to be backed. Whether I like him or not. (unless he's doing something unlawful)

SNS,
All of us genuinely appreciate what you are doing here with this thread. Some of us have lost friends and many relitives in the military. But all of us who are veterans belong to a unique, closed club called "Been There and Came Back". A lot of my personal friends didn't come back. And they are missed and live on my my memory, just as thousands of others live on in other memories.

When you talk about Clinton or Bush neither of these two are members of the club. Both of them hid out and didn't go with us. I am sad that anyone is placed in a position of sending in troups when he himself has not lived that experience. You are a changed person, a different person.

I understand about those that didn't come back. POWs/MIAs.. those killed in action. My heart hurts for their friends/families... my parents had friends/family who never came back. Thank God my dad did... & the others. They made it out alive. They may have horrendous nightmares from the things they've done & seen.. but they are heroes in my eyes. Especially the one's who didn't make it.
Bush also has people who are in the military advising him.. that's why I don't have much of a problem with his decisions. I trust them to know what they're talking about. One can only hope, anyway.... <grin>
Many people I know who are in the armed forces today, agreed with getting something done. They wanted action. Most felt like we'd been blindsided & wanted someone tangible to take out their pain & aggression on. Which I understand.
For the most part I leave the politics to the politicians. I vote, as I have every right to.... I, as a very proud American, can only accept who's voted in.

Ok.. enough politics <grin> .... I don't mean to run off on a tangent....

I really started this thread to show my appreciation to our Military... past, present, & future.. & to the ones who have paid the Ultimate Sacrifice. & to let others speak out about how they feel.

Thanks to everyone... Love you guys

Being a honorary member of the 'Been There club' I agree. Ya see were weren't in Nam but three weeks when we were caught in one of the most intense fire fights I was ever in. That day I carried my best friend Larry off the battle site over my shoulder. He had been hit in the chest and by the time we were able to reach the helicopters though all that gun fire the medics told me he was dead. After my tour of Nam I went to see his wife. To tell her how brave her 22 yr old husband had been. Do you REALLY think she cared how brave he was? I held the son he never saw. When ever I think of that moment it brings tears to my eyes! To this day I can't not visit the wall because I know way to many names on that wall. I'm not really not sure how it would affect me and in all honesty that wall scares the hell out of me. Do you have any idea how many years it took before the gun fire and helicopters stop playing in your head as I tryed to sleep? I don't want to revisit those times. Christmas time is the worst for me I can't help but to think of all those missing good men. The ones that were shipped home in the black body bags. You try to block it out as best you can and enjoy the holiday.

Do you have any idea what it takes to look down the length of a barrel and take down another human being. To end someones life. We didn't thing of them as people they were merely targets. If you thought of them as people you would have hestitated in pulling that trigger. Perhaps another soldier may walk off the battle field that day. Perhaps hundreds of soldiers may walk off that battle field that day. That is why we worked to develope the United Nations to address situations such as these. All the years of conviencing other country to bring there disagreements to the U.N and let the U.N. solve these disagreements. Basically we spit in the face of the U.N. Every thing we worked so hard to prove to the rest of the world will take a life time to rebuild.

Do I support the troops over seas? You bet your ass I do. They are a elite member of the 'Been There club'. I love every single one of them. They right now put their lifes on the line each and every day for people like me and you. How many of them do you think wished they were home right now?

There seems to be some kind of a miss conception here that us Nam Vets were hero. I was just one of the many scared to death young kids in a bad situation trying my best to stay alive to get back home to the 'American Dream'. Ya see my war is over. I feel sorry for the ones living it now.

Oh, has any buddy seen that 'American Dream' lately!

Now stepping off MY soapbox and stepping off this thread. I've said my peace. War is a last resort not a answer!

Once again this is only MY opion.

Bye....

Jaded, once again, for those of us who served and never made it to a combat zone and the rest who have never put on the uniform, our words will never be able to adequately express our gratitude for what you and all the others have done on our behalf. All of our life experiences are different and some people end up doing things they never thought they'd have to do. Like SNS said, the president has the best advisors available to him and it would be suicide for him to back down because he didn't want to "dishonor" vets by not fighting because he never went to Viet Nam. Kennedy created the baddest special ops force ever and he had fought in WWII so I don't see how lack of military experience would prevent anyone (with balls and a backbone) from doing the right thing, which we are doing by stomping out terrorism worldwide. Something that should have been done after the Munich Olympics, but I digress in a major way.

Anyway, this thread is for the vets, if you want to start your own Dubya Bitchfest on another thread, be my guest. Label it with big letters so I can find it :D

SNS: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose:X2 Thanks, again for starting this. I will shut up about politics.

Regards,

WG
