I had an interesting discussion with my roomie today on the topic of the degeneration of the live music scene in Las Cruces. We are talking about the feasibility of forming a non-profit llc. with the purpose of providing a venue for the underground music scene in the area. The local clubs that are providing an audience for music are limited to pretty much two clubs which is shit for the second largest city in New Mexico. We are thinking about forming an entity which would take donation from live shows and other interested parties. I would like to throw in a slant agenda from the S&M community into the mix.

Any thoughts on the feasibility of such long term project?

my heart breaks. Marquis doesn't have the answer to everything?

Betticus, I know of a not for profit company in the UK which has been operating since the 80s. They run bars at major festivals such as Glastonbury and have their own pub, the Bread and Roses in London. Money is ploughed back into campaigning work and developing their services.

Its not exactly the same...but the principles behind it maybe. Hope it helps :)

Seems ok. There is certainly a lack of venues that you'd be taking advantage of, it might get investors backing you too. However, I think laying off any explicit mention of an s/m slant in your business plan. If you must, mention what kind of acts you hope to bring in the venue: industrial rock bands, metal bands and punk shows are perfectly acceptable. Also, don't shy away from the underage venues. They are a great source of invigorating the more mature clubs in the mid-term as it will have people going outside more and opening up avenues for teenagers.
