Or, you could ask one of the many people who live that way.

A writer doesn't need to "understand BDSM relationships" because each one is different. They just need to understand the one they are writing.

It might be worth the buck-and-a-half if I could be sure that some of the best writers in that genre were going to speak. If (and I know that they don't live anywhere near NYC, so their expenses plus appearance money would be substantial) Grandmaster dweaver999, Grandmaster Sir_Nathan, and Grandmistress Lisa Jones were going to be speaking, that would be worth the price of admission.
