Fluid in ears

I've had fluid in my ears now for at least a week (doc checked me earlier in the week.) I thought it would be better by now on its own, but I still feel it gurgling in there, especially when I swallow. I can "hear" it.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get it out?

Hmm, I don't think you can get it out, it just has to drain on it's own. Maybe take an antihistimine?
I've gone through the fluid in ears saga with my daughter, finally had to get tubes put in her ears. She's much better now :)

I've got the antihistimine and the decongestant. But it seems to be stubborn and not going away this time. I tried the peroxide a few days ago and that didn't work. Hmmm... maybe the rubbing alcohol. I have that.

take a decongestant (as directed) and then blow up balloons and chew bubble gum (not at the same time) throughout the day.

The decongestant loosens the fluid up..blowing up balloons will make your ears pop and releave the pressure and the gum chewing helps your body drain the fluid out of your ears..

My daughter has a constant build up of fluids behind her right ear (to the point that she has loss of hearing in that ear). Trust me this all works. :D Atleast it does on a 7 year old.

*edited cuz me kan't spel write :D

Marxist, I haven't seen such compassion & regard for life directed towards another boardmember since BlkPanther in February or Unregistered this summer.

I'm not likely to see it from you again. Consider yourself ignored.

I'm 50/50. I gave a solution (ignored) and some dark humor (ignored).

Dude, it's WATER. It'll come out or evaporate. Hang on to the clock and chill, Cheyenne is a big girl.

I didn't ignore the suggestion. At least not the first one. But I tried the ones where I had the supplies available first. The rubbing alcohol was first up. It may be a little better than it was, but they are still clogged.

I don't have any balloons but plugging my noise and blowing gently should work the same. I have bubble gum for tomorrow. :)

Yes.. plugging your nose will work. I just thought of something. The balloon thing is probably just for children. Because they don't quit have that ability..

duh.. I'm such an airhead sometimes (ok, most of the time).

Cheyenne dear...

Try alcohol and vinegar. The alcohol kills the germs and the vinegar Ph balances it. We use it after swimming. Works well. If it's inside, the decongestant will eventually clear it up.

No, you're not. I didn't think of it either, but it makes sense. I have to do this with sinus infections, etc. so I should have thought of it, too. :)

considering the fluid is behind the ear drum.. putting alcohol or vinegar or knives in your ears won't work.

It needs to be dealt with from inside. Decongestant is best.

Did the dr give you any meds?

Just my normal every day decongestant and antihistimine. It is a virus, not bacterial.

The ear candles really work. I am not sure why they aren't more widely utilized. If you decide to try them, give me a holler. There are a few tricks that can keep you from incinerating your hair.

Sometimes these things can take up to 6 weeks to clear up. Be patient.. and if it doesn't clear up.. call you dr because it could go from a viral to a bacterial infection.

I have ear infections so often it is frightening. One thing to point out that is kind of obvious but just in case, is;

Keep cotton balls in your ears when you shower so you don't get more fluid in there to irritate anything, even if it is behind the ear drum. It makes it much worse. It also helps to put a little vasoline on the cotton ball.

I hope it gets better soon.

And what are these ear candle things?

Ack! I need them clear sooner than that, I need to fly next week and I know better than to fly with infected ears. Ouch!

I'm going to be good today and remember to do the balloon/nose thing AND chew some gum.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. (I think I'll stay away from candles- I KNOW I'd end up bald from starting my hair on fire!)

'What ifs' are the bain of adventure! Some cultures have been candling ears for over a thousand years, yet, those of us under the watchful eye of western medicine, refuse to consider - not something new...lol...but something old and reliable. I am posting the first result of an internet search on chinese ear candles. Check it out.
