and what happend when I gave in an took an Ambien.

Apparently I slept for four hours, great, I really needed it. Then I groped my poor husband for hours, demanding sex. Mabye not demanding, but being pretty damn insistant. First round: he was happy. Second round: tired but willing. Third round: took one for the team. Fourth round: threatened to tie me up so he could get some sleep.

The bad part is, I remember NOTHING OF THIS. It's horrible. I just want to get some sleep, not take something that will make me not remember things I do. Unless it's snore, I'll gladly remember that.

He filled me in when he got home from work and I gave him a kiss - he held up his hand in the "I surrender" gesture and fake flinched away from me. I had no clue what he was doing. He was sort of hurt I didn't remember him accomodating me all night long.

Ambien can be very dangerous. There have been reports of people taking it before bed and then waking up and driving somewhere and have no memory whatsoever of what happened. Your reaction is not rare. It has been known to cause a person to be more outgoing and aggressive and then not remember a thing.

I've taken it before on a few occasions without problems, other than to be sound asleep.

I have a friend that takes ambien on occasion and I have watched her on it. While she hasn't had the same experience as you; it is very funny to watch. Yes though it is scary that you can't remember what you have done.

I find this pretty disturbing - what if you do something to jeopardize yourself like deciding its time to fix the roof? Did you tell what happened to a doctor who prescribed the drug?

Ambien is, to me, very similar to being really drunk. You do things you wouldn't normally do sober, and you don't remember it the next day. You're awake, but you really aren't consciously aware. Not to mention all the walls and door frames you bounce off of when you try to go to the bathroom.

I love the stuff, though. I don't take it very often, as in less than once a month, but it really does help me sleep. The best thing I've found to do is to finish everything I need to do BEFORE taking it: shower, go to the bathroom, have a snack, whatever. Then, I take the pill and immediately lie down, get comfortable, close my eyes, and wait to fall asleep. I've never had any problems doing it that way. The problems, for me, are in trying to stay up and "wait for it to kick in."

Doesn't sound like that's how it happened for you, though. Can you take a half a dose next time? I've done that before.

I actually did call her. She said she had heard some similiar stories from other patients. It's generally her last resort med, but my lack of sleep had been interfering with my quality of life.

If I do have to take it again - after exhausting all my usual sleep tricks - my husband will be on the look out for me. If I act strangly again, I won't take it anymore. I'm hoping it was a fluke.

However, I read a news story about some guy who took it during the day, and apparently made a booty call to a co-worker, drove to her house, had sex with her, came home, and did lots of stuff around the house. His wife was none too pleaseed!

My mom swears Ambien is wonderful and non-habit-forming. I've heard it's best to steer clear, and this just reinforces that for me!

I didn't much care for Ambien. I wound up switching to Lunesta. The worst side-effect, that I've found, is a very bitter taste in the mouth for the next day. Sadly, I've been sleep-deprived. The cost isn't covered by insurance.

Yeah, Ambien makes me feel drunk, like Bunny said. I remember one time I took it, said I'll hop in the tub and by the time I get out the thing will have kicked in so I can just lay down basically passing out. Wrong. When I went to get up, I couldn't, lol. I had to call Bunny in there to help me get up because I couldn't figure out how to get up, lol.

Also, if you try to stay "fight" the Ambien after it has kicked in Bunny and I both have heard music. Music that would come from a small jewelry box.

I only take it when I can't stand running on less than 4 hours of sleep anymore.

What you need it to be utterly used and worn out. Then you'll sleep.

I dont know about her but when I am exhausted I cant sleep. Reading something light and boring helps sometimes.

I dont use any drugs anymore, at the time I did I had 2 small kids, a job and incapable husband. I couldnt cope with the side effects.
Now when I dont work, kids left home and the only being I really take care about is cat - I can stay up however long I want. It means 2 days in row without sleep sometimes but when I do sleep I finally sleep 4 hours in row (I used to wake up after 2 or so).
The only thing is I get sleepy at any odd time, mostly during the day. But then I can afford to sleep whenever I want now so its no big deal.

I snore. And drool. AND I'm a blanket hog!

You sound like my ex
Ok apart from the drooling part.

I would freak out in the middle of the night and throw him out of the bedroom. It was ok until we had his mother visiting us and she slept in the spare bed. So he took the mat and went to sleep on the kitchen floor..... she almost fainted when she found him there in the morning. Now I wonder why she hated me for all those years

I dont think you would mind sleeping on the mat though ;)

Nah, as long as the mat was by the bed!

I do snore, though. It's worse when I fall asleep on the recliner. I suppose it's the position, but, I've managed to wake myself up, before. Always when I'm in that weird half-sleep state, the sort where you just started to dream. I always wake myself up when it's a really, REALLY good dream, too!

I have a horrible snoring problem, when I actually do sleep well. The kids in other rooms can hear it, so I know my husband can. He says he doesn't mind, but honestly, when he's snoring and I'm tossing and turning, I want to smother him with a pillow, so he can't "not mind." He just puts up with it.

I'm thinking of getting sleep study done, my insurance apparently will cover it. With my luck, I'd sleep like a baby during the study, though!

I heard a story on the news I think, about someone who would take Ambien and sleep walk. She said she wakes up in the mornings, goes out into the kitchen to see all of the cabinets and drawers open, stuff on the counters, etc. Her husband said he hears her out in the kitchen during the night but she doesn't remember a thing about it.

Wasn't there also a congressman who was speeding or driving drunk or something in the middle of the night and he said he had taken Ambien and was sleep driving? It sounded far fetched at the time, coming from a congressman and all. But, the more I hear about other stories, the more I think it could happen.

i don't like ambien. it made me really loopy, and the sleep was short and not worth it. sometimes i take melatonin, an OTC, that is cheap compared to prescription drugs. as much as i dislike not being able to sleep, i hate the side effects of some of those drugs. grrrrrr.
