Kitties aren't slow when they're awake, unless it's one of those hot days like today.

:cathappy:

Hot day yesterday too. Around 92 degrees. And helping a band carry their equipment in? Doesn't help any either.

Some are more alive than others

Yes, I agree with ya'll about the activity of this thread. Seems like it drops to the bottom of the thread floor only to pop back to the front page. It must be that since we have so much going on here in the "Sunshine State"; its difficult to find the time to sit at the 'puter' and say hello.
Anywaaaaaaay, Hiya! :D
kym from sizzling South Fla. checking in  Its warm and humid and I wouldn't have it anyother way! :p
Its brill out and the tourists are thin as an onion skin. Ahhhhhh. :) :) Its nice to have some breathing room once again.
If only the sea lice would vamoose now!

~kym~ Soakin up some sun :)

SEA LICE, The ocean's revenge

Hiya Elf, Yes...... Sea Lice. They're sort of like Red Bugs (or chiggers), in that they bury themselves under the skin and itch like the devil for about a week. They mostly affect those regions that your bathing suit cover.
What they are, are juvenile jelly fish that are brought into shore by the Gulfstream. I live where the 'stream' kysses Florida. Every year at this time our beaches are affected by them. Its partly the ocean's revenge for the beach pumpings; the reefs that used to be home to many fish who eat these buggers are now buried under yards of sand. :(
Whew! :p You'll catch me at the pool or sunning out in the back yard until they're outa here!

:eek: I never heard of them before. I've heard of Sand Fleas. We used to catch them when we were kids and use them for fishing. But now it's hard to find any. :(

So did we. They are excellent bait for Pompano and other surf fishes. Those too have been affected by the beach 'restorations'. Because their environment has had tons of sand pumped onto it, they aren't as numerous as they were. You see small colonies sometimes, but nothing compared to what used to be.
They always reminded me of a saltwater palmetto bug or something. Ya know? I must confess that I've seen palmetto bugs as big too!
But enogh of that; nice to meet you Elf Kitten, and as you can see from my AV, I'm quite fond of the feline species too. Meet Butter and Scotch, 6 weeks old and full of themselves. Wonderful to simply watch.

Kym,
Only solution we found for sea lice was to not use the bathing suit!! Actually, it's not joke, skinny dipping doesn't allow the sea lice to get caught between fabric and skin - hence no irritiation.

Sometimes skinny dipping is not an option: too many prying eyes and what not.

I dunno SlvrT; I've heard quite the contrary about sea lice and skinny dipping. I've heard from some that I'd consider to be knowledgeable, that the lice will get into the "folds" of the skin and do their dirty deed. I've some pretty sensitive "folds" if you get my drift. ;)
I think I'll pass of the beach until sea lice season is over. If its not tourist season... its sea lice! Sheeze!!
Btw, I was unaware that ya'll had the problem over there. I assumed that it was on this coast only and my area only because of the proximity of the Gulfstream. Learn something new every day.
Wanna take a mo and wave hello to MsSeminoleWind..........Its always a pleasure to meet another Native of the same generation. My family hail from 'round your parts. Nice area up in northern Fla. Have given thought to moving up that way in the future. I like the Suwanee area. Perhaps a bit south of you and towards the coast.

G'afternoon E.K. Hope all's well with you and yours. Just fed the boys and they're down for the count. :cathappy:

~kym~ Way down upon the Suwanee River, far... far away.........:D

Good afternoon Kym :) They should be out for awhile. I'm a bit frisky today, but I'm trapped at the office :( But, it does sound like your day is going well.

:cathappy:

YIKES!!
Still trapped at the office at this time??!
Its quiting time, isn't it? If not, then tell 'em I said it was time for you to go home. You've worked hard enough for one day and they need to make sure that you get home soon ;)

My day hasn't been much of anything. Paid some bills and played online. Nothing exciting, but some days are like that and I enjoy them too.

~kym~no manic Monday here :D
