Back on Topic ~ Okay, I love fishing and go as often as I can which is never ever enough.

We Are The Loudest Family In The World....I Do Like The Excessive Noise, But If I Don't Get My Proper Dosage Of Silence I Turn Mean;) Fucker.

I Like Beer Almost As Much As The Fishing Too, FluffPE:D

Anyone Ever Catch Something Unfishy On Their Line Ever?

I Watched Some Folks Pull In A Muskrat Once...Yikes!

Thor, I am with you on that. I want that recipe.

RNAB, I have pulled up all types of debris whilst netting. Quite a shame to what people discard into the waters.

In fresh water, dead fowl. I about threw my rod into the water. :D

You need a trip to the mountains for some quiet. :)

I've hooked all sorts of trash. Commercially, we pulled some pretty nasty stuff from our nets.

Salmon and Goat Cheese Gratin

6 medium potatoes (approx. 2 lbs) peeled, and thinly sliced
1/2 C chopped onion (1 medium)
2 large cloves garlic, minced
2 Tbs. olive oil or cooking oil
1/4 C all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
3 C milk
1 C goat cheese
8 oz smoked salmon

1. Preheat oven to 350'F. Cook potatoes in lightly salted boiling water for 5 minutes. Drain; set aside.

2. In a saucepan cook onion and garlic in hot oil over medium heat until tender. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat.

3. In a greased 3-inch baking dish layer half the potatoes. Layer flaked, smoked salmon on top of potatoes. Crumble 1/2 of the goat cheese on top of the salmon. Pour half the sauce of potato/salmon/cheese mix. Top with remaining potatoes and pour remaining sauce over second layer.

4. Bake, covered, for 35 minutes. Uncover, top with remaining cheese. Bake 35 minutes more or until potatoes are tender and top is golden. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Makes 8 servings.

This recipe sounds totally froo froo with the goat cheese, but it doesn't taste froo froo. The goat cheese actually complements the salmon quite well. I usually add more garlic, and I've substituted butter for the cooking oil with no adverse affects.

Bon appetit!

The wind was from the east at 10 knots. The seaweed was coming in with the tide in 10' x 10' patches. The fish were ignoring my shrimp, sand fleas and mullet. So the rods went back into storage and we spent the rest if the afternoon cleaning trash off the beach (three large garbage bags full). Not a wasted day by any means.

Any day on the beach is a good day! Too bad there was so much trash to deal with.

One disadvantage of the Gulf Stream. When the wind blows in all the lost cargo and crap from the cruise ships and gambling vessels comes ashore. We always leave with at least on bag full. What is encouraging is that others do the same. There are advantages to these windy days. Seabeans come in greater numbers. We found several large coconuts and a host of smaller nuts from South America and other parts of the Carribean.

One of the guys that used to fish with us alot pulled up a crab pot while we were fishing out of Skagway. The line leading to the crab pot had a finger attached to it.

Come to find out that someone had been stealing crab pots and when he accidentally dropped the pot, his finger was tangled up in the line and it ripped it right off his hand.

That was a while ago, nothing that cool has happened since.

LOL...you never know what nuts might blow ashore here, too! Generally, the two-legged kind.

Karma bites hard sometimes.

Snowbear... Dude, I love fishing but even I wouldn't kiss a fish. May eat it raw, I don't have to see it's lips. :D
