Firsts

Jr high and I can’t recall the building. First time I realized I was afraid of heights. Horrible trip too.

First place you took a vacation as an adult?

For my 18th birthday, my dad took me back east with him on a business trip. Philadelphia, D.C., Annapolis.

First really big decision you made concerning your future?

At 16 I decided that I would dedicate myself to the job I ended up doing. That’s probably the first big one.

First time as an adult you broke your word?

I don’t think I’ve ever really ‘broken my word’. I’ve let people down, I’ve done the interview a minute!’ thing almost every day since becoming a parent. I probably didn’t want to get married as much as my spouse did, but that’s not really a broken word. I think having little faith in people is helpful here because I try to set the bar low myself.

First time you really lied?

I have been told I was a small child and involved me sticking something in a electrical socket. Iliad honestly don’t recall it though.

First time you noticed the opposite sex in a romantic way?

Let’s see if someone will start back up....

First regret that you remember?

A girl in my class, in I think year 5-ish. To 9 (or 10? I'm hazy)-year-old Alpine she was lovely, and I'd never had these weird feelings before. I did ask if she wanted to hang out in town, but it was received with a perplexed look and I subsequently found myself the butt of jokes for a week. Character-building :D

First regret that you remember?

When I was 4 I was being careless on a playground, not using a rope to climb some piece of wood in the wet, and fell off. I cracked my head and was taken to the hospital for stitches. I can remember the drive there, with a cardigan to pad my head and absorb the blood. I regret not using that rope!

Same question. First regret that you remember?

Not kissing you enough?
No, not taking the right grad school path. I wanted to leave behind where I was for a few reasons but ended up somewhere worse for me.

First heartbreak?

A few weeks before my senior prom, I caught my boyfriend in an uncompromising position with one of my friends. We broke up (obvi) but it was awful because I lost 2 relationships in that moment.

It really shook my confidence in my own judgment for the first time.

First car? Make, model, how old were you when you got it and tell 1 anecdote about something that happened in your car, please. :)

First car was a brown Pinto station wagon (don’t be too jealous!)I was caught by the police without my shirt on in the back with my boyfriend (I was 16 and he was 19 so he was waaayy more scared than I was about it 😁)

First Halloween costume you remember wearing

Casper The Friendly Ghost.

First teacher you ever had? Not the name, unless you remember it but what did they teach? And tell us anything you remember about them.

First one I remember was Mrs Wroe. Steel-grey hair, absolutely terrifying. I don't remember anything she taught, just that I was very frightened of her :(

First teacher who set you on your career path (knowingly or unknowingly)?

A professor in college. She was amazing and opened my eyes to the field I wanted to go into. I didn’t, I dropped out of my PhD program. But I still love her and communicate with her.

First time you knew what you wanted to do when you grew up? Did you end up that?

First thing I wanted to be was one of these:

I was 6 or 7, maybe. I didn't really know exactly what they were doing, but I wanted to be the one who knew exactly which hole to stick the thing in. As it were *grins*

I didn't do that. I became a software developer. Which didn't really actually exist as a career when I was 6 or 7!

What was your first pay check spent on?

Not what you'd expect, but my mum's house was burgled when I was 10, and we had been away on a short break. When the officers came round to take notes and talk to us, that was my first interaction with them. Bent as fuck, encouraging us to claim for all sorts of shit we hadn't lost. We didn't.

Same question.

Burgled is a funny word.

I was 14ish and drinking with friends in public - cops came by and told us to leave. Looking back, it we hadn't been white, the outcome would have likely been different.

First time you remember being truly sorry?

First time you remember being truly sorry?

I was 9 or 10, and I was dancing about and singing (I think, I was doing something that involved me hurling myself around) when I accidentally knocked a picture off the wall, cracked the frame and broke the glass. I knew the picture meant a lot to my mum, and I felt so bad for my carelessness.

Local vicar was reassigned to a different parish, lost touch with his son. Probably 9 or 10.

First MP/congresscritter you met?

Unfair question because I worked on Capitol Hill for a member of Congress. I think I met them before I was a kid but...I don’t know which was first.

First time you felt responsible for something?

Never happened.

First meal over 100$

A couple years ago my best friend’s Dom took us on a trip and we went to a super fancy restaurant and we were told not to look at prices and order whatever we wanted. The bill ended up being well over $500. As someone who grew up insanely poor and still lives on a very strict budget, I was flabbergasted. He liked taking us out. He even took us shopping during this trip and we got to buy whatever we wanted. I felt kinda weird about it, but he insisted.

First time going outside of your comfort zone?

** edit** skip me, I took a phone call while writing my response.
