Okay , so something came over me in the shower yesterday ,and I went for it . Now before anyone says anything, I have searched on here and other places for proper technique , and I thought i was doing well, but I am still prickly. Was trying to go for the smooth look, but that didn't happen. I know that redness and those pumps occure for the first time, but its not that bad, just itches a little. So I guess my question is , how do I shave the prickly ones off, I have already gone through three razor heads. (think I missed the trim stage)

Help !!

Lady gave great advice, but if I get razor burn, I apply some over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream...it takes down the swelling/bumps, and the itchiness also goes away. There is also a product called Bikini Zone that's sold in the shaving area of most drug stores that is supposed to help a lot. I usually wait until the irritation goes away mostly before I attempt shaving again, and everything works out well. If you shave on a daily basis, you won't get the bumps or itchiness after awhile.

Good luck!

If you have gone through 3 razors and have pricklies then you are probably irritated. Let it alone a day or two and then shave again.

Also I have found the more you do it the tougher the skin gets to irritation. I rub myself down with a light coating of vaseline after I shave and that seems to help.

Wish I could just go for the Brazillian myself. :D

I use body wash instead of shaving cream. Seems to help the razor glide better.

And I swear by Bikini Zone. Works very well. And pretty decently priced too. :)

Trimming first is definitely the key. You can pick up cheap barber-style hair clippers at most drug stores, Wal Marts, or Targets. When I shave my legs or bikini area, I skip the shaving cream and just use my regular conditioner that I wash my hair with. It does a much better job at softening the hair and keeping me irritation-free.

Directly after Christmas we will have a bunch of the Hair Trimmers for clearence at Walmart (we ALWAYS do) so if any of you are looking for a new one keep that in mind ^_^

I find the Skintimate exfoliating shave cream (in the pink bottle, not the can) works really well because it has a more lotion like consistency. Another key factor is using at least a double blade razor, but triple is even better.

There is a lot of excellent advice here already but have found the best relief for the itching is hair conditioner as it softens the hair stubble making it less likely to annoy.;)

How do you get rid of the unwanted hairs that are difficult to shave? Like for me, it is hard to get around the balls. Do you just pluck those areas?

Does anyone use maybe one of those hair removal cremes?

Brazilian Bikini Wax

Someone mentioned brazilian bikini wax...I have been wondering about that. So i'm just going to spout off a few questions.
1. Does it hurt?
2. Where can one get this done?
3. How much does it cost?
4. How long does it last?
Thanks!

A guy could give you better advice, but my hubby generally just uses clippers on the difficult to shave areas, which is fine for me. He has shaved with a razor, and I think the keys are to pull the skin tight and be very careful.

Lots of people use dipilatories like Nair or Magic, but if you want to try, you absolutely have to do a test on another sensitive area first and wait for 24 hours to make sure there's no reaction.

For me, I used triple blade razors...now they make ones w/4 blades, so that might be even better. I also used conditioner, always took a warm bath beforehand and most importantly...hydrocortosone (sp?) afterwards to ease razor burn.

Okay , so just an update, like i am sure you want to know :D everything is going well, and it looks like the haircut is staying, but was wondering about what to use after you shave, but i see hydrocortozone was mentioned. Oh and the itching isn't too bad now, just when i walk a lot, so good advide , thanks :D

Theres a thing that used to be called the "Feathertouch Razor".. it's changed name now to the Seiko Clean Cut Intimate Area Shaver.

It's one of the best products I've seen when it comes to down there shaving (short of the brazilian wax, but, some can't stand the sight of blood <grin>, or pain)

Basically, use a hair trimmer to trim it down as low as you can (they have a little trimmer thats quite handy (shaped flat))..

Then you use talc and this device to smooth off the stubble.

Our experience is, no bumps, no razor burns and no rash.

Im sure you can google for it for your local area.

thanks for the advice, was hard enough looking for bikini zone as someone suggested by myself, but i think i finally figured it out, and its kinda working :) or i have a high itch tolerance, thanks anyway though for the idea , maybe one day

now i just have to walk into a toy shop, next how to lol
