It is colder than a witch's tit out there this morning, but I have a vase full of beautiful bright red tulips just to the side of my computer screen. Our local grocery store was full of cut tulips and daffodils yesterday. I have daffodils to take to my relatives later today and a bunch for me to take to work to enjoy this week.

Cut spring flowers in the store are my first sign of spring. :rose:

Bah. Just Bah.

It's gonna take me at least 30/45 minutes to shovel my car out.

BUT....I did have a gorgeous cardinal and his mate on the fence a few minutes ago, so that counts for something. Not sure what, but...

Yup, birds count, too. I haven't seen a robbin yet, but I've heard the geese flying in the morning. Of course, they could be the fat local geese who were too lazy to fly south in the first place!

Yeah, funny, the Canada geese here in Canada don't fly south anymore. They just hang around.

Lazy buggers :)

Of course now, I have to go buy flowers. Thanks Chey. ;)

yesterday we had blackbirds flocking en masse...

I was ready to do a Hitchcock a couple of times:eek:

Today they are all frozen again somewhere..

today is more of a Rear Window day...scary!

Little pink buttecups all over my lawn, tiny green leaves slowly budding on my trees, the sunny sky and warm weather we have been getting lately tells me spring is coming and I am so excited. :)

our daffodils went crazy and some bloomed in jan when we had a mild few days

hopefully some will still bloom for spring

Yesterday, it got up to nearly 70 F. The redbuds are in full bloom and the azalias are starting to bud.

When I went into town yesterday, motorcycles were everywhere. That's the most certain sign of spring.

Latitude is everything. ;)

I guess spring has come a bit earlier here. This morning I've seen blackbirds fighting it out in the backyard over a mate Other species of birds are pairing off and looking for nest sites.

Yup, latitude is everything. That's why I can breathe here in the summertime- because it isn't so hot and humid that only air conditioning can help you survive the heat. :p

hahahaha..... didn't you know, the heat and humidity is good for your complexion?

It's not the latitude, but rather, the attitude.

:p

It was 74*F here yesterday.

It definitely felt like a spring day.

It will be officially spring when it's warm enough to be barefoot at 7am.

My attitude is that I don't like being "cooked." You can keep the automatic sauna weather!

I'll always be a northern girl. I think our cold winters make me appreciate the little things (like the green grass, flowers, leaves on the trees) so much more when we actually have them. Or the fresh flowers from the grocery store in February. :)

Is that like, how noise makes you appreciate the silence.

Or maybe, like how good even warm water tastes when you're dying of thirst?

Or maybe it's like, how good if feels when you stop banging your head against a wall?

Really, I like yankees. They are what keeps the south from being so crowded.

I hope y'all know, I'm just kidding. It's so pretty outside today, I've got to go clean out the garage. In the south, even the spring cleaning comes early.

;)

I went out to ride the other day and my horse had removed her blanket on her own and was rolling in the mud.

I was dive bombed by barn swallows when I went out to feed this morning.

I was compelled to hang up my windchimes on the front porch, and threaten Mr PCG's life if he doesn't take down the xmas lights soon.

No, it is the size and quantity of the BUGS you people have in the south that keep it from getting too crowded! Other than with bugs, that is. :D

Winter kills a lot of stuff that I think should be dead in the first place. The south is a nice place to visit, but in all seriousness, I hate bugs enough that I couldn't live in a place where there were so many creepy crawly things that live all year and get to be HUGE. EWWWWW.

Generally speaking winter does not kill off overwintering insects, unless it is terribly cold, then you will lose a certain amount.

Lack of snowcover, combined with a terribly cold winter season will aid in the death of overwintering insects.

Insects have been here a lot longer than we have and have learned, and evolved to adapt.

First sign of spring came here with 13 inches of snow last nite......

Well I hate to say it but it does feel like Fall here in NZ this morning... the chill is nibbling at my toes. But the Oak tree has not turned yet so there is hope still of more summer before it heads up your way....

Have a great Sunday everyone.
