I just got my first "this isn't quite right for us, but feel free to send us something else" pseudo rejection slip. I'm kinda bumming...just thought I'd share.

Chin up, sweetie.

Rejections are those facts of life in writing, correct?

We all know you have the talent. The marriage between a writer and publisher requires that special chemistry. So don't give up, and keep trying.

;)

Hello Delicious,

You know I was just reading the other day how J K Rawlings was rejected by numerous publishing houses, prior to her huge success.

And just imagine how Bill Gates would have felt when he sent his 'Windows' program to IBM and got his "this isn't quite right for us, but feel free to send us something else" pseudo rejection slip.

;)

Have a great day,

Alex (fem)

Sean Connery was once told he should not act because he had no talent...Look where he is now.

Sorry to hear of it, but your luck will improve...take heart

d-naughty, that's not that bad of a rejection. They didn't exactly salt the earth. Getting invited to submit something else is saying they still liked your writing.

Not every story is for every publication, and not every story is for every issue of a publication.

Keep plugging away and you'll get there. I'm still treasuring my 'good' rejections.

When they tell you that you and all your living relatives should perform suttee, and they then go on to explain exactly how it should be performed ... THAT is a REJECTION SLIP! :(

I agree with all of the above, DN - you're a very good writer, with a flowing language, and a good insight into people's minds and characters.
Go again! :rose:

If I might ask....

What was the rejection slip for? Poetry, fiction, non-fiction, erotica, etc. And what is the publisher's main dish to its readers?

Congrats, hon! A "no" just means you're being noticed. The "yes" won't be far behind!

You should take heart that you are not the first to have had that happen. One of my very first stories was rejected when I first joined. Knock 'em ded with the next one.:) :rose:

literoticaffeine...I sent them for love of snow white

Don't feel too bad...

They've rejected three of my stories here, sending them to their Extreme sister site instead. The form letter I received said that those three stories had violent rape in them, but in truth I think it was the bestial nature of them that did it as there was no violent rape in any of them. You may be experiancing a similar problem without really knowing the cause. And one can never actually talk to those who reject their work which makes it hard on the writer to correct the problem.

quite true DM...I think that perhaps snow white isn't erotic enough for them...it's a sensual fairy tale with erotic elements, but perhaps not explicit enough.

you don't know you're born...

More years ago than I care to remember (although I do, vividly) I sent a few scripts and synopses to just about every major tv production company in the land. It was a sit-com based on two brothers and their hilarious adventures.

It was rejected by every single company and the worst rejection was from the BBC, the 'reader' said my characters were unlikeable and 'laddish' and the scripts were too far fetched ( a lot of them were actual experiences).

Friends and family on the other hand laughed out loud when they read them. I put it all down to experience and being 'before my time' (how right can you be?)

Something like two years later, lo and behold, a new BBC sit-com about two laddish guys and their hilarious adventures.

Not a patch on my work and not half as funny but amazingly similar.

How's that for rejection?

Perhaps it's because I'm too

I remember my First

I can recall my first rejection slip. It happened back in the late 1960's. It was a spoof of sorts on James Bond. :( Although I have not tried to get anything published since (Out side of the things I have here on Lit. It was a very interesting though not a great experiance.
