Welcome back SCOTUS! After a string of historic decisions last term on issues such as gun rights, regulatory overreach, and abortion, the new term that starts tomorrow promises to be equally interesting for court watchers. Justice Ketanji Onyika Brown Jackson begins her first full term with at least two huge hot button issues that will be heard and ruled upon. One deals with use of race in college admissions, the other deals will free speech and religious liberty.
There are philosophical differences among the justices, however, as GWU professor Jonathan Turley notes in his column published in The Hill this weekend, “they are all maintaining views of jurisprudence that fulfill their oaths to faithfully follow the Constitution.” Let’s hope the hate and anger directed at the court from some partisan quarters last term doesn’t rear it’s ugly head again this time.
