It had to happen. I posted my first LIT tale 2 years ago next week. The comments for the whole time were EAT SHIT & DIE, or LOVED IT. But yesterday I got SLOW DOWN.
And it made me think about writing tempo and reader comfort.
I think fast. I'm Mercurial. In school I had the answer first. Most readers aren't like me.
All things considered, there is little in my skull to impede impulses from the thalamus to the neocortex, it's like the empty space between stars! If writing were music what I must now do is switch from toccata-fugue to sonata-allegro form. That is, shoe-horn a petit pastoral transition into the middle of the story. A petit set-piece. Maybe the calm center of a hurricane is a better analogy.
