Fires in Sydney.

I'm good, ta.

Hundreds of homes are feared lost as the worst bushfires in more than a decade swept across the state on Thursday.

Premier Barry O'Farrell said: "By the time we've finished counting it will at least be in the hundreds."

It would take days to fully assess the loss, but the Premier said he was grateful that by late last night no lives had been lost.

"I suspect if we get through that without the loss of life we should all thank God for miracles."

Thousands had been told to evacuate, as the flames surged into populated areas at the foothills of the Blue Mountains, the Southern Highlands, Central Coast, Lithgow, Hunter Valley and Port Stephens.

In Yellow Rock, by the Nepean River on Sydney's western fringe, entire streets of houses were destroyed.

the 'no loss of life' has to be worth being grateful for.
losing all your home and property must be mind-numbing though. i hope those in need receive aid swiftly and without undue further stress.

glad to hear you guys are ok. :rose:

It's an early fire season this year. If I stay here, I won't have a problem as everything burned out last year, but if I move to Glass House it could become an issue.
Glad you're ok :)

It was a little bit scary yesterday. The sun was bright red and then it disappeared altogether. Everything went dark. Like day became night. One minute we had beautiful clear sky, then suddenly it was black with smoke and ash.

It's cooler today, but temps are due to rise again Sunday/Monday.

Time to go to work.

Me too, thanks. :)

Mean you're not on the front porch watching the fires and posting on lit:rolleyes:

What's the problem?
Once your property is fire ready and your car is packed ready and the sprinklers are going on the roof - all you can do is sit and wait till it's time to leave.
Luckily, some of us who've had close calls had been ready and with the firies on the property, all we had to do was sit tight till they say 'GO NOW'.

Unfortunately, the Sydney fires are moving far more quickly :(

Just make sure they have enough beer, they'll do fine.

That's a really fucking thick thing to say, mate.

Honestly. I know you're just mucking around and having a laugh and all that, but people have lost their homes. Everything. Hundreds of people. Motherfuckers are exhausted. A bloke died of a heart attack trying to put a fire out yesterday.

Just...

Oh, the internet!

Carry on! :)

I get a bit pissed off sometimes reading the idiotic comments.

I was listening to an 18 y/o chick on the radio yesterday. She was describing how her house burnt down.

She saw a small fire in her backyard. She ran inside (frantic as), and by the time she got back outside her whole backyard was on fire.

It only takes a couple of seconds in the right conditions. Strong winds, low humidity and high temps. The sky is clear and you can't smell anything... And then the next thing you know your house is burnt to the ground. Gone.

43 cars were burnt out the other day at Homebush because some fucking idiot threw a cigarette butt out the window. How fucking stupid are some people?

Grrr.

Deb, can you tell me about this song?

I've been to One Tree Hill. It was years ago, back when the tree was still there.

You're right, it was kinda mean.
Back in the day while in the service, I met a lot of Brits and Aussies going thru Camp Merrill, and they both had a very tough it type of attitude, the remark was meant to say, that they would tough it up, have a few drinks and piss on the damn flames.
So, if I offended you, or anyone else, with my poor sense of sick humor, I sincerely apologize.

How are ya?

Yeah. It's just... I thought your comment was a little insensitive. Thoughtless and inconsiderate, you know? It's tough, mate.

Thank you for the apology. It's all good. :rose:

The song is dedicated to Greg Carroll who was a roadie. He was Maori and took Bono to One Tree Hill on his first night in Auckland. They became friends but sadly a year later was killed by a drunk driver when running an errand for Bono on Bono's motorbike.
