Hey all!

As you may recall, I was planning a trip East which, for business purposes, needed to conclude in Saratoga Springs, NY by Nov. 1st. After many a discussion with those in the know regarding roads, weather, distances, time, etc., my spouse and I modified this trip from a jaunty tour of New England to a simple visit to Salem and points between there and Saratoga. Hence, we will be flying into Boston a couple of days early, visiting Salem and then traveling up to Saratoga. We know that Salem is a tourist trap, but it is the one place we wanted to visit that made sense (i.e., seeing it and getting from there to our final destination with only a few extra vacation days needed).

Let me add, our anniversary is October 31st.

Salem hotels and inns, obviously, make it difficult to stay there over Halloween (one required a 5 day minimum, payment in full upfront!)--but that's okay. We found a great place some 5 miles away. A B&B in Marblehead, MA. What we need to know now is this: Does anyone have any recommendations for where we should have our anniversary dinner on the night of October 31st?

We're not looking to eat at a haunted house or participate in Holloween events. We're looking for anywhere in or around Marblehead, a ten-fifteen minute drive max, which serves really good food. We don't want a big, fancy place so much as a cozy, quiet and delicious place that serves something seasonal and local (hey, if we're going to be in New England, I want New England cuisine).

Obviously, Boston's going to have the cream of such places, but as this will be a Wednesday night, we'd like to avoid Boston for fear of commuter traffic. Any thoughts or recommendations very, very, very much appreciated. Also any traveling advice, or sites to see in the surrounding area outside of Salem or on our way to Saratoga? Thanks!

She's a witch! She's a witch! Burn her! Burn her!

What makes you think she's a witch?

Well, she turned me into a newt!

A newt?

... I got better.

Burn her anyway!

(You got married on Halloween!?!?)

I loved Salem, but then again i was there for the Halloween festivities and was drunk most of the time. Its a beautiful town with really nice folks. I would love to live there.

Sorry I can't help you with the food thingie, but I know wherever you end up the seafood has to be fabulous!

Are you kidding me? An ass like that and she knows Monty Python. I can only describe you as I once described a character of mine:

"That son of a bitch!" she glared.

"What happened?" I rose to my feet.

"That son of a bitch drugged me!" she said. "He put something in the wine he gave me."

I sat back down. She looked fine. Julie and I looked at each other and then back at her.

"'e turned me into a newt," Julie said.

"I got better," I added reflexively before I started laughing. Wow! Who knew what a jewel this girl was? I'll bet Richie Rich didn't. If I didn't already have the Hope Diamond...

You, too, SK. You, too.

Sorry for interrupting. We were talking about 3113's being a witch and she decided to help us out by selecting Halloween for an anniversary date? Who needs more proof? Trial by fire? Trial by drowning?

You haven't posted that story here yet.

That's true; I haven't figured out quite how to do that - technical problems. It's a good story, though.

Anyway, enough about me. We still need to get this witch a place to eat in Salem. Come on, now. There must be a bunch of people on this thread from the Bahston area. What the hell else do you have to do in the winter? The Red Sox aren't playing then; the Bruins suck; the Celtics suck. You read fine literature. So help the witch out, huh?

You might want to consider this, since you're into Halloween and perhaps fantasy:

I've never been to the place, just suggesting that you take a look.
It is obviously a different sort of fine dining.
