...find international disability advocacy organizations?

obviously, not one of the traditional questions you might expect to find here in how to, i know. what can i say, i dig on bucking trends.

so my question was in the title: what US or international advocacy organizations there are for those with disabilities? what i'm looking for: name of the organization and ideally where it chiefly operates or is based.

some sense of who the big players are would be really helpful, too.

Can you be more specific? For instance, there's a pretty good list on Wikipedia that I'm sure you've found already; what are you looking for beyond that [type of thing]?

My other question is info on orgs that deal with specific disabilities helpful, or are you seeking info on orgs that deal with most/all disabilities? From what I can tell, most of the major players are more specific, e.g., NAMI, Autism International, American Pain Foundation, American Diabetes Association. However, there are certainly big "umbrella" groups like the American Association of People with Disabilities, American Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities, National Council on Disability and the Disability Rights Commission as well.

IOW, some context and more specifics would help.

i'm really looking for umbrella organizations but it does make sense that the more focused organizations would be the bigger players. and oddly enough, didn't even dawn on me to check for a wiki.

what i'd really like is input from those who've had personal dealings with any such organization.

Any specific type of disability, LD/PD? In UK organisations that are pertinant to the individual disability seem to have schemes. Others to look out for are Action 4 Advocacy, SEAP, Matrix and voiceability. There are statatory advocacy services IMCA (mental capacity) IMHA (mental health)
