Fidel Castro dead

Yep..

If Castro was such a saint, why did so many give their lives trying to escape that "workers paradise?"

Before we get too critical, let's remember the U.S. embargo crippled any chance Cuba would have of a prosperous economy. Yes, it's our fault all those people in Cuba lived lives in grinding poverty, with no way to better themselves.
The fact that Cuba had trade relations with almost every other country in the world is immaterial.

Like all the Trump fans giving Hitler salutes, you mean?
Not all, just a significant number.

If the USA government had deliberately devised a plan to force Fidel to the Soviets they could not have done a better job. Actually it's feasible that it was a deliberate policy to make the President look strong and increase spending on the military.
I'm not so sure about that. After all, it was Eisenhower who warned about the military-industrial complex.

Who on this forum said he's a saint?

No one has actually said that.

In this you have a valid point.

But what has transpired is everyone on the Left trying to find something good to say about him which has generally devolved into the negative false equivalency of, well, maybe he did do bad things, BUT WE WERE/ARE WORSE!!!

Or say what the President said which was a whole lot of nothin'.

You do know the US blacklisted any company doing business with Cuba, right? Whether US or not. Just ask Shell or BP.

It's just like with the former Soviet block.
It had a lot of bad parts too (Let's not forget about the Gulag and all the other stuff), but it had a few good parts as well: free healthcare and education.

Whereas now most people can barely make ends meet, while others are billionaires and have private jets.

Sure did know. It was an easy choice. You want to trade with a country that actually produces something and has actual consumers.

Initially Fidel just was a left wing opposition to Batista - who was a total twat.

If the USA had accepted his revolution and recognised the new state with an Ambassador etc, and not try ludicrous invasion/assassination attempts (and the continuing occupation of part of the island), it's entirely possible that Cuba would nowadays be just another Carribean island.

Like Jamaica, Trinidad, Dominica. A bit shitty, but not very concerning.

The U.S. didn't break diplomatic relations until after Castro had been in power for 2 years.

One can argue about the wisdom of not having diplomatic relations based on "we don't like your system of government," but the U.S. didn't goad him into doing anything that he wasn't already intent on doing.

At least they still have their Che poster.

No one seems to be talking about how President Kennedy turned him into a superhero with the failed Bay of Pigs invasion...

Yeah, and then 10 years later the Cubans looked around and noticed their lives still sucked.
