it's when we make a family of friends. Some cultures won't even differentiate between blood relatives and other 'cousins' which they're usually called.

Some folks have 'aunts' or 'uncles' they grew up with whom have no blood relation.

When I was 15 my world of fictive kinship began developing and was secured by 17. There's about 10 of us and there's no question in my mind that they will be my family forever.

There are old friends and good friends, at times they are mutually exclusive; my old friends and I are contemporaries so we're not just gliding along on past memories.

Maybe lit. is a form of fictive kinship?

alexandraaah...you come up with the most interesting and stimulating threads...i have several nieces and nephews that view me almost as a father because their's left and can't be bothered...i also have several friends whose kids come to me to discuss things that they might not feel comfortable discussing with their parents...their parents are good friends of mine and they know that this happens and the kids all know that they can talk about just about anything with me without fear of me pimpin' 'em out to their folks unless it's something that they are doing or contemplating doing that is illegal or really dangerous..as for lit, i've yet to feel that type of friendship although i see it amongst some of the members and i sense that it may be the strongest type of friendship that some of the members have...

You are a rich person indeed to have so many friends.

I believe Lit could be similar to what you describe. I hope I develop some good friendships here myself. It's amazing how the personalities come through here.

I think that lit can be a form of fictive kinship. I haven't been here very long so I don't many people very well but eventually I am sure that I will form this. I have an adoptive mother online that I met elsewhere as well as brothers and sisters. I can see that happening with lit. Sometimes the bond with fictive kinships are stronger than those with actual kinships if that makes sense at all.

Perhaps this is why your title is so apt?
