Is it Macha?

Is there a word that means exaggeratedly female?

Is there such a thing as machisma?

I'm stuck.

No idea, but what sort of girl are you thinking of? One who's all lipstick, painted nails and high heels or a girl who knows she's looking good and struts accordingly?

Well, I use "Macha" to describe a swaggering, aggressive and rakish woman, since it's a variant on a word that means "male animal", not an opposite.

I think "Femme" is what I'd use, it's the term used in all groups that cope with gender issues:)

Added; The Spanish have a word, "Marianismo" which means a highly spiritual, forever-giving, sex-only-for-procreation woman. Machismo men want a Marianismo wife, and then a slut or two on the side.-- but i don't think that's what you're looking for!

My first thought was "femme" as well, FWIW.

If she's using her sexuality in such a way as to warrant it, you might use femme fatale.

Well, of course Butch describes a masculine female, Femme describes exaggerated femininity, but somehow I don't think either of these is exactly what you are looking for, particularly as femme implies passivity - might I suggest femme fatale? This implies an exaggeratedly feminine individual with more masculine predatory instincts.

Mmmm. Good question!

A non-lethal femme-fatale. What they might make of a pre-baby Angeline Jolie, say, after she went into Saks with $50,000 to blow, but maybe a little cheaper than that.

I think you see them at carnival in Rio.

I should add that technically, the term bimbo applies not only to the stereotypical dizzy blonde, but also encompasses the more Machiavellian femme, who conceals her ambitions behind a mask of ineffectuality - this can be a very successful strategy, a power behind the throne sort of thing, where the woman is the strategist, the man a pawn or a front who merely thinks he's in charge.

This sort of noblesse oblige can actually be quite desirable, as you get all the benefits of an intelligent woman, but you get all the credit, i.e., these women can really make you look good.

is this a commonly understood usage? because it's a first for me. Bimbo is as insulting as you can get, even more than slut, as far as I know-- it insults the woman's intelligence as well as her morals.

If she makes you look good, it's only by contrast-- your dog looks smart next to her.

Another sexual role that might interest you, it currently interests me, is boi, i.e., a female who takes on the role of an adolescent male, still feminine, but with a much more androgynous flavor.

Femme Natale; the stripper we send you for your birthday.

Or how about; "Femme Vitale" I like that one!

You need to do much more research, dear. Boi is a dyke term and is unrelated to any sort of heterosexual stereotypes. It's too new to have been appropriated that way-- in fact conventional lesbians don't use it yet.

I think you're thinking of "Gamine."

Boi has been in pretty common usage down here for several years. Of course, SD is SUCH a hot bed of lesbian lifestyle that I'm SURE we are trend setters.

I understand that, nevertheless, there are self descibed boi's searching for male dominants, and it's a bit presumptuous of you to imagine one can confine every role to a set of preconceived precepts, if I may be presumptuous myself - you might need to do more research, sex roles are ever evolving.

My current understanding of this particular dynamic is that the role w/respect to the male dom is more service oriented, more like a mentoring relationship without the bullying and erotic torture (explicit expectations, forced feminization), i.e., more like a sidekick, a relatively submissive role but without the sexual/political overtones, i.e., you're submissive because you're a woman, thus, androgynous - maybe what we used to call a tomboy.

i.e., she identifies as something similar to a gay adolescent male.

Complicated stuff.

Oh, that would have been me for the first twenty years of my sexual life. Except that it was sexual. I played with gay men, not straight. I've never trusted a straight male Dom not to presume on male privilege, although Corylea says she's known a few.

Complicated stuff.

Please, please, please stop doing what Mab has been doing, and talk about theoretical stuff as, explicitly, theoretical. If you're talking about women, remember-- you're talking to women here.

Don't be a Man Who Explains Things.

"Not to presume on male privilage", that sums it up nicely.

Hey. I'm just throwing stuff out there, you're trying to "explain things" to me, I'm going by how these women are describing themselves, quarrel with them, not me, I let people decide for themselves what to call themselves and what that means for them.

As you say, the dynamic clearly exists, we're just arguing over what it's called.

Anyway, I'd prefer you not use that tone with me, lest we start something - it's very Machisma of you. :)

Just where the fuck do you get this GREAT wealth of knowledge about lesbian lifestyles? Are you a lesbian? Are you even queer? Do you have ANY fucking idea about what you are talking about?
(sorry, Stella. Blood pressure already spiked. I might as well express myself  )

This is not the only forum I frequent - nor did I say anything about lesbians that I recall, I merely used a term that originated in lesbian culture that has acquired new meanings.

Don't be such a patronizing asshole - is that degendered enough for you?
