Safety first

Spare key is a great (make that ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!) idea.

For men, on the CB series, they use those number tags that can be snipped with a scissors (and are also not metallic, good for airports) but can't be re-attached and are not replaceable -- perfect for safety but also security (or, at least, knowledge of lack of security).

You could probably do a sealing wax thing along one of the closing seams with a unique seal that she doesn't have. Very "ornamental."

If you can't be there 24/7, then chastity can be a good way to inject a little of that D/s element into a long-distance relationship. It should be coupled with regular sexual frustration play, or the mood can change quickly from "hot and excited" to either "bitchy and irritated" or "don't give a flying f&%$ about sex any more," neither of which is probably what you are after.

I would definately say that a she should have access to a key if she needs it, but make it in a way that she can't easily use it without a good reason. I talked to someone once who made her sub boy's key into a necklace. She had the clasp of the chain soldered and the chain was small enough that he couldn't get it off without breaking the chain (which was one that would break fairly easily). Sounded like a great way to make it available at all times but keep it from being used unless there was some sort of emergency.
