Feedback not what it seems

A few hours ago I got feedback that began:

“I must have masturbated 100 times to your story; I am obsessed with it.”

I was then given an URL in order to look at the correspondent’s wife because the sender thought it might provide me with inspiration to write another story. The address was a Yahoo site and I was asked to register my visit. With this in mind and even though the email was not anonymous I assumed it was a ruse and deleted the email. I no longer have any record of it.

Was it a ruse? Have other authors received something similar?

My stories

If I were to get that, I would assume it was just a ploy to get me to register. Probably some damned spammer trying to get your "real" email address or a pay porn site trying to "lure" you in.

It sounds like he was trying to get you to register with his Yahoo group. Anyone can set those up. Some people will put pictures in their yahoo group for others to see.

Many authors use them to notify people about new stories. They are legitimate in most cases. I can't tell you if the one you were given was legitimate or not though.

You could look at your browser history and see what the link was if you wanted to check it out further.

It was no big deal. I don't think it was a ruse. All they would have had was your email addy. Same thing they had to write you with in the first place. Even if they used a post page from Lit that hides the email addy, they would get it when you responded and thanked them (I hope).

Because I thought it was a ruse I didn't reply and I can't now do so because I have deleted all record of it. I would have replied otherwise, it is common courtesy after all.

Mind you, how do you reply to someone who starts off telling you that they have tossed themselves off 100 times? I suppose you could compliment them on their stamina, or the fact that they still had the energy to send feedback!

i'd be cautious... and keep your virus checker up to date.

i was warned yesterday of a virus doing the rounds in Australia, to do with collecting a greeting card from a website. once collected the virus infects your system.

If you really wish to contact him, there is a way.

Were it true that he had masturbated 100 times before sending, there is undoubtedly a copy stuck to your Internet Provider's mail server.

Octavian, my friend. I am terribly sorry that my feedback to you was so misleading.

Just kidding, I would never send you a nude pic of my wife…I like you too much!!!

Seriously, it sounds legit to me, especially because the site in question was a Yahoo link. Your fan may have not realized the link was something you needed to register with to access or perhaps he just thought it would not be an issue.

But between you and I, I sincerely hope the story in question was AMLS and not ADTF. I’ve only been able to masturbate to that story twice.
