It amuses me that I received my basket and I used three out of the four ingredients in a previous story. But of course nothing I have going right now uses them. Ah well. I have a couple of ideas percolating. Should be fun.

When you email your story to FAWCker, include the following things at the very beginning, in order:

1. Your title. It should read FAWC 2: My Title Here.

2. The following disclaimer:

"This story is a submission to the second Friendly Anonymous Writing Challenge (FAWC). The true author of this story is kept anonymous, but will be revealed on August 16th, 2013, in the comments section following this story. Each story in this challenge is centered around a random determination of four "mystery ingredients." There are no prizes given in this challenge; this is simply a friendly competition."

3. Then the following:

"The mystery ingredients for this story were (list your four ingredients)."

I've got a question about this part, specifically number 3. Instead of putting the mystery ingredients in the beginning, can we list them at the end? Wouldn't it kind of defeat the purpose of the "mystery" ingredients if we list them at the beginning of our story? I feel as though readers (either regular readers or authors trying to figure out who wrote what) will read the story looking for these specific things instead of just enjoying the story. Maybe just make it a choice of putting your basket at the beginning or the end instead of only at the beginning?

I wouldn't put the entire disclaimer at the end simply because I'll be using it to point out category indicators since the tags don't show up til the last page. But I think the mystery ingredients would be better listed at the end rather than the beginning. Just a thought.

When I first read the lists of ingredients I only saw one that I felt would really give me a hard time.

More than once after thinking on that one and coming up dry I said, man I hope I don't draw that.

I got two ingredients that didn't fit entirely well together, but I think I've found a way to include them without making the story seem contrived. Maybe. We'll see.

How about we give authors a choice depending on what they feel is the best for the story? I remember there being an issue with this in the last FAWC with a nonhuman tag. So I would prefer letting authors decide where the tags might be the most helpful to both the readers and the story.

Except that the tags are always listed at the end. I think you meant the disclaimer, which gave whatever warning the author wanted to include regarding content. But disclaimers were allowed to be general, without mentioning specific themes if the author did not want to.

In this case, however, the four ingredients are essential to the story. I would strongly suggest we all agree one way or the other: ingredients listed up front, or at the end, but not either/or. That would keep everything the same except for the story itself.

This kind of makes me wonder that if we do put them at the end, then the readers will be so busy going back looking for them that they won't vote or comment. Hmmm. Dammit.
