I always like to look at other stories people who favourite mine favourite. Lately I've noticed people with the lengthiest favourites list I have seen. I wonder if they are using the feature to mark those they have read and don't want to read in the future again?

Another thing I've noticed is when I look at author's other submissions, I'll often click on who they have favourited and a lot of authors don't seem to use this feature. I'm not saying this is a good or bad thing, just an observation.

I like to favourite stories that I believe are absolutely amazing. I often favourite new authors to check back on their subsequent work and also as a bit of encouragement. Others, I use the feature to track those I genuinely do like to check for new story releases.

Just my random Wednesday evening muses!

There are quite a few authors here in the AH who often comment they don't read much on Lit - I know we're only a tiny fraction of the author count, but many others might be the same., and not have long fave lists.

Those with the massive lists perplex me too: a) do they ever read anything else but smut? and b) what does it mean when you're on a list with hundreds of other writers?

Right. I tend to write more than I read.

I read quite a few stories here, and I have "followed" many authors so I get updates when they post new stories. But I don't "favorite" many stories because it's not useful to me to do so. I like giving recognition to stories I enjoy but to be honest I usually forget to use the feature.

To EB's point, I suspect that there are many, many Literotica readers who spend a lot of time reading smut. It's probably a daily habit.

I've noticed a similarity. Bangkok was the scene of one of my stories. It surprised me to see a number of readers had favorited stories with Bangkok in their title or had a southeast Asia theme. Same thing with stories I'd written regarding female Viagra.

I suppose we all have our own individual kinks. :D

Likewise I follow authors so I can see new work from them. In the rare case I "favorite" it will be one part of a series. Generally the first chapter.

Just my random Wednesday evening muses!

In the last two days, I had two readers load up on my stories by favoriting them--like favoriting 65 of them at one crack in one case and over 20 in the other. My presumption is that they are just building a future reading list, which is fine with me. I would, of course, like it if those favoriting voted what they favorite, but my observation is that many readers see voting and favoring as an either/or option.

I tend to memorise any favourite author’s names (yes, really) and check them every now and then, and I used to do this with stories too, and only started to ‘favourite’ them when I’d read a story more than once, which is rare. More likely I’d vote with 5 stars (like your recent letter, SJ, and I’m glad it’s fiction and not your current reality, but so evocative it had me wondering…).
What perplexes me is people who favourite a story immediately after it's posted, in less time than they’d be able to read it (maybe it is a place-holder bookmark to read in the future?), and I'm also curious about the site members who have no stories but have followers. Like, perhaps people are following other people’s favourite’s lists?

Me too. I have a long list of other people's stories I mean to read one of these days, but when I do start, it tends to get me inspired to write more of my own.

I do also check on what else my fans like, and I've discovered a couple of gems that way. There have also been times when I've been left wondering "What do they like about my work if this is what they like in general?" But there's no accounting for taste.

I think this is a really valuable use of the feature - to see what other stories a person who favorites your work has also favorited. Of course if the list has a million stories in it, it's worthless, but some well curated favorite lists have been helpful to me and even inspired ideas.

When someone favorites my story, the first thing I do is look at their profile to see if they have written stories themselves, because that carries a bit more weight with me. Someone who could be writing instead took time to read my story and liked it. Then I look at their favorite list, and I often find at least one story to jump to.

That's how I look at my own (short) favorite list. I think of it as a curated selection of stories that others might come and look at and follow the thread, same as I do.
