I suspect that the issue relates more to the different formats of the stories than anything else.

Audio stories have their audience, and over time the views (listens) will grow. I believe the majority of readers here are just that; readers. It's much more private to read about erotic scenes than to listen to them, especially if headphones are not available at the time.

I got thinking...maybe that is the case?

That is why we are here..?

But I posted a genuine audio file...but it's not had the response like my other story.

Are audio stories less popular?
Definitely an audience for both. I like audio stuff but I can't risk it being overheard 😳 traumatise my teens for life that would. 😅

Audio file was the source of a story.. Oh well! I see how this goes. Some audios are so…plastic. I like reality.. but can be boring. Yeah headphones is a must:)

I've got a short story, O'Malley's Bar, with 36k Views. The audio version has 31k "Views" - over nine years. The scores are similar.

I have no idea what this proves.

Over time? But in short term written stories are more popular because of publicity at the start..? Or is it pure bingo?

Surely… has it happened to you…?:)! Actually that would make a good story..

It is the format that makes the difference. An audio story has vocal inflections like pitch and volume changes and pauses which may or may not be what the listener is imagining. The voice - male or female - also has an impact depending upon the subject. The audio books you can buy are narrated by speakers chosen for what they lend to the story by their sex and tone of voice. They're also edited to make certain the narration doesn't override the intent of the author. It's the equivalent of a director on a movie set explaining to the actors what he or she wants them to convey to the audience, and retakes are common. It's doubtful an amateur author reading his or her work could achieve that level of perfection.

When reading, the reader is free to paint their own pictures and "hear" what they want to hear. That will be different for each and every reader and that makes reading a more personal experience.

There's the issue of tempo too.. I read fast, unconsciously skipping small paragraphs of superfluous (to me) descriptions. I simply don't have the patience to listen to an audio story.

And no, it's not just that I skip to the 'good parts'. I do this for non-smut too 😇

I prefer reality of my wife moaning than voice of Julia Roberts the professional actress any day
