Anyone know of a free family history chart that can be downloaded for filling in?

I need to keep track of my characters

as long as you don;t want too many bells and whistles you can d/l the standard version of Legacy here.

It's not brilliant, but none of the free ones are. If you find a better one then please let me know - we need one for an actual genealogy project...

It's not free, but Family Tree Maker is excellent software & easy to use. My database of cousins has about 22K names in it.

ETA: Yes, I also use it for writing purposes. You can create any number of databases.

We have had a look at that, it may be that we buy it in the future, but we're on the tightest of tight budgets running up to the wedding, so it will have to wait :)

Thanks for the recommendation though, always good to have a personal perspective

Unfortunately, it's a PC only programme. But thanks anyhow.

I just bought MacFamilyTree for 49€. It looks fantastic, and gives a mapped interface showing where family members migrated, were born etc. I'm going to have fun!

so the 'free' thing wasn't a big problem then :D

Glad you found something that suited - let me know how it is to use

:D No... it's that daft thing where you see programs costing 100's$ and I hadn't thought to lok for a shareware programme on Apple - trouble is it's way too much fun :D

Oddly, it doesn't allow couples to get divorced! And so far, it seems to assume marriage by producing offspring.

I've seen some programmes that even allows civil partnerships and co-habiting couples... it's a bit daft that it won;t let them be divorced. i would have thought that would be a common requirement in listing modern families...

It appears to be done by setting up time lines and adding new partners, the graphical link between the former partner is then removed. I presume there is a way to separate them without taking on a new partner, just haven't found it yet :D Co-habiting is no problem, just given them their individual surnames. And it caters for same sex partnerships.

Go Mormon

Try the free softtware on the mormon church site. it's a bit old fashioned but accomodates multi marriages and as many divorces as you like .I think they call it Personal Ancestral File. It's easy to delete all the church and temple stuff you don't need

I just found the marriage/divorce/pre-nup/engagement/you-name-it button :D cleverly hidden under children. I'm now looking for the remote control... it must be in their somewhere.
