I'm running OE6 6.00.2900.2180 and have an issue that I can't figure out. Almost every time I open Outlook and click on a new read/unread email, it takes 10-20 sec to open. After the first one every email opens up quickly. Very frustrating. I can't find any answers to this problem. Any ideas? Please help.

My guess

is that all your emails are being downloaded to your computer, which takes a while. After they are there, they open quickly.

Another thing may be that your anti-virus program is scanning your emails before allowing you to open them. (and allow a virus into your system)

I turned off the option for auto download when opening and still had the problem. Now the virus scanner is possible but I don't recall that happening before. Grrrr.

Are you sure it's an OE problem? What if you tried a different mail program? Is there still a delay?

Do you know what kind of mailbox it is? POP or IMAP? The latter doesn't usually involve downloading all of the messages in their entirety at the beginning like POP does although it might be slower because it tries to open another connection to the server.

I have exactly the same. It's just the first e-mail I want to open or start writing. After that no problems. It's annoying. No idea what to do about it though...

I've Googled this problem over & over and even found someone that posted the same, exact issue and guess what? No response.

No answer havin' Bastards!

And yes, its a pop server.

'Cept my first email ain't "poppin" open like it should.

All of my (incoming) mail in OE6 is from pop-accounts too, always have been so I can't compare otherwise. I always wondered if it could have something to do with the fact that I have Outlook (with e-mail) installed on my computer also and the system somehow checks first if the mail doesn't need to go there. That's all I could come up with and, no, I'm not a blonde...

get rid of that turd of an email client and use something better. Thunderbird is free, and does all OE can, and more.

I'm all for OS and such but sometimes, when you have your own business for example, it's not very 'clever' to change your turd of an email client ( that happens to be one of Europe's largest providers) just like that. Also... I don't think the e-mail client is the problem here.

The first time you run Thunderbird it offers to import all your settings from OE or a number of other e-mail clients, so installing and configuring shouldn't be difficult.

I don't know what else to say. I'm stumped on a similar problem at work involving startup times for something else. Can't make heads nor tails of that either.
