Hijacking Lou's thread, since we're apparently finished congratulating ourselves.
Now, let's get helpful. What works? What tips/tricks help keep you focused on this journey? What triggers a fall?
(I agree with EL -- it really should be all about health & vitality.)
The biggest -- well, three biggest -- things for me are (a) having "grabby" food handy that won't sabotage me; (b) getting some form of exercise daily, even if it's "just" a long walk or yoga-type stretch; and (c) WATER -- at least 2 liters of plain water daily. I don't count calories or measure portions.
"Grabby" food for a low carber would be nuts/seeds, cheese, raw veggies (sans carrots) & dip, strawberries, deli meats, hard boiled eggs.
My triggers are MOOD, MOOD, MOOD. When I get discouraged/depressed I want to EAT. (Oddly, anger has the opposite effect. It puts me in an "I'll show them!" frame of mind and keeps me in line.) Once I understood how closely my lethargic down-in-the-dumps moods were tied to my blood sugar ups & downs, it became easier to combat -- and stabilizing those ups & downs (i.e., avoiding the sugar highs and subsequent crashes) made a HUGE difference in my mood swings. It was more effective than any anti-depressant I ever tried, that's for damned sure.
