The F-35 must stay 25 miles away from a cloud.

$1.5 Trillion dollars spent.

America can't have air superiority if it rains.

No wonder we only fight in deserts now a days.

Since it's only the one cloud, I don't see that it is all that big of a deal.

Don't believe most of what you hear about the F-35.

It's the baddest fighter jet ever and is the future.

The helmets the pilots wear alone costs almost 300,000 dollars.

Each.

I love the thing.

Here's the problem with F-35 (just one?). It's trying to do too much. Hitler found that out the hard way when he tried to turn the first operational fighter jet into a bomber rather than use it for what it was designed for.

The same with F-35. We've been trying to make this jet into the be all and end all of fighter jets yet it does nothing particularly well. For a list of its failures:

http://blogs.reuters.com/great-deba...t-f-35-fighter-cant-turn-cant-climb-cant-run/

As the last article relates, "It was designed to replace almost all current fighters in the Air Force and Marine Corps and complement the Navy’s existing F/A-18 jets."

Think about that for a moment. Some of the most advanced, capable and deadly jets on the planet are going to be replaced by one jet, which includes the A-10 which is without peer in regards to close quarters ground support. This jet is supposed to do everything the Air Force, Marines and Navy want, all at the same time.

There is no other way to say it but this jet is a failure, and not just a minor failure in that it doesn't quite meet expectations, but a colossal failure in that it doesn't do meet any expectation and based on current assessments, will never meet expectations.

Last I checked the 22's still whip on it on head to head....but they are also cheaper, smaller, more versatile and thus better in some more specific situations, but not the interceptor/air superiority fighter situations. F22 is faster, carries more ammo, has a longer range, has equivalent stealth and weapons capabilities though is negligibly less maneuverable up close and all in the uglies due to it being bigger/heavier.

But you can't slam a raptor into a carrier deck now can you?? :D

I think comparing the two would be like comparing the Tomcat/Falcon....for their generation of fighter both were fuckin' bad ass birds.....but they both had their advantages/disadvantages sitting side by side. Which is better? Really comes down to the mission vs who's behind the stick.

How many times has the F-35 flown a combat mission?

None...

What was that movie about the Bradley Fighting Vehicle? Perfect example of what you are talking about.

The jet works fine. You're being lied too.

If you're in a mig 29/35 would you want an F-35 in your rear view mirror?

Manned fighter jets while exotic and expensive are political tools, pork barrel and showy offy now adays anyhow.

I highly doubt a fighter pilot for the USA will ever go into battle again. Accept from someplace in Indiana or Iowa.

Just because something is expensive, doesn't make it good.

I have never heard of an airplane that must stay 25 miles away from a cloud.

Clouds are literally everywhere, this would be virtually impossible.

Bradley's are the BOMB man...I mean I was always a leg grunt but I tell ya what having one of those BAMF's show up and 25mm a problem away never failed to give me wood.[/QUOTE] That made me laugh.

I hear the AF is basing a squadron or two at Eielson AFB just east of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Unmanned drones are what the REMF's really want. They can sit at their desks and play video-game war.

Give me a break.

Like pilots are so much more macho, flying back to hot showers, hot food, beds, ice cream...

Trust me, when they have drone grunts, there will be a lot of guys very happy not to sleep in the rain and mud. I could happily sit in front of a screen with a joystick and go on patrol. Dry, warm, a cup of hot coffee next to me. Yeah, war would be hell. 8)
