Extreme cross-wind landing

Ok, I am going to be flying for the first time on Friday and I don't need to be watching this...

I imagined the clip going on for about 5 secs more than it did, and the plane careens off the runway and goes nose down in the mud.

Oh, hi Thee. :)

The windsock wasn't indicating terribly high winds so I have to think the pilot and stewardess were wrapping up a quickie.

Actually, some of the comments said the approach to that airport has building blocking the approach so pilots have to get rated to land there. Whatever's going on it's a hell of a landing.

I think I've been on a couple of the TAP ones into Lisbon that link to your posted vid, Roxy  Take Another Plane has always struck me as the appropriate translation for those initials. My worst TAP flight landed late at 2.00am, when the airport had virtually shut down for the night, on the wrong runway, the one they were digging up. I didn't know planes could break that hard or turn at speed. Out of the side window we passed a guy frantically waving his arms and a bloke wearing ear mufflers bent over a jackhammer breaking up concrete. I now travel with a low price airline, pay my carbon tax set-off and wear a crucifix.

It is not a crosswind landing just a normal working day at the old Kai Tak airport. I think the approach was like that because of the mountains.

And the tunnel of apartment blocks you had to fly through to reach it. About five minutes before the seat belt sign used to come on for landing at Kai Tak, the stews used to hand out shots of Scotch to anyone looking nervous in first or business... Chek Lap Kok has taken all the fun out of things...

This is for Zade to attempt on her flight simulator.

(It's pretty amazing.)

I land like that anyway... regardless of the wind conditions. It's the one thing I still haven't got the hang of. Sometimes I even end up outside the perimeter fence...

Take off and cruising I can do, but landing's a different ball game.

Cool video, Roxanne! :rose:

Planes aren't that scary. *says in the most soothing tone*

You should never, ever, ever be afraid of them. ;)
