External Hard drives

Get an IPod or a similar device...

I've got a 40 Giger; dual purpose

a) Store and play my music
b) Backup drive for my stuff (Mostly I just dump a folder on there and keep my stories).

Yes, but ipods are fucking expensive!

Never thought of that.
I have a 1G MP3 player, and I copy music from my comp straight on to that. Not that expensive, either.

Napa 1G MP3 player

Could definitely be the answer.

Wow! Ok, so (I'm sorry if this is a stupid question). What's the difference between an external hard drive and a flash drive?

Moving parts.

One option that hasn't been mentioned is a flash-card reader -- basically a flash-drive with removeable media that uses memory cards like those used in cameras and PDAs as the storage medium.

If you have a camera or PDA that uses Flash cards, you can use either as a back-up drive to read/write information to a flash-memory chip and store the chip somewhere safe to protect important data. However, think about how you're going to label and organize the chips because it's very easy to misplace a one inch square chip. ;)
