On a completely random topic, are there many people here who exercise? Particularly people who use home systems?

I'm looking to invest in something for my apartment so I don't have to buy another friggin' gym membership, but I'm not sure what direction to go in.

I don't exercise regularly.. but when I do, I find crunches, pushups and jogging/cycling are perfectly effective, and free.

Mine requires a willing and enthusiastic member of the opposite sex.

It's not cheap, but a lot of fun. No membership fees though.

I run. It's free... except for the shoes and the little blinking light that keeps me from getting run over. :D

Isn't that Sexercise?

I do work out regularly. Sometimes I go to the gym, but I also have some things at home. The ones I use most often are a treadmill and a barbell with some assorted plates.

Perhaps the simplist thing is a simple gym mat. A reasonably complete exercise program can be done with nothing but 'body weight' exercises. I am speaking here of push ups, sit ups, lunges, triceps pushups, crunches, leg lifts, oblique crunches, etc. There are complete body weight exercise programs available from the 'Net.

The nice thing about the body weight exercises is that you can try the program for a very minimal invest ment. If you like the results and stick with it, you can then add some dumbbells to allow curls, and presses. You can also augment your lunges.

The effects of a good exercise program include enhanced sexual ability for a male. A male needs to do a bit of work to have really good sex. If the male is in good shape, the work is not only pleasureable, but easy. For the ladies, good physical conditioning allows the use of some movement during the action. (Just lying there may work against a grizzly bear attack, but it will get you a reputation as a lame lay.)

I use basic free weights to muscle train. They provide the best range of motion and I can alter the movement of the excercise until I feel the muscle group I want worked being worked. For cardio I play Dance Dance Revolution for my X-box at home and hit as many of the arcade machines as I can.

Me too, but sometimes after using the things I have at home I'm too tired to go to the gym.

6:00am - 500 alternating crunches/sit-ups, 50 push-ups, mirror and then shadowboxing for 20 minutes

8:00pm - Weight bench on my patio, benchwork at 45 degrees, then 30, then flat--three reps each.

Home exercise equipment is great if you want your livingroom to smell like a gym.

Hmm . . . new gym smell . . . :p

Thanks for the advice all. I'll probably use the apartment facilities for upper body, then find some home exercises to do for abdominals and legs.

Same here. Then at 9 AM I wake up and have a shower and a chocolate croissant.

I don't have money or space for equipment. But in the last several months, my backside has expanded until it almost needs its own zip code. As a result, my best friend and I have started (oh, dare I own up to it...) walking at the mall in morning. It's helping, it really is...

Hey, I'm a bit of a mall rat myself. I'd love to find a good walking trail around here, but I haven't had a chance to do much exploring yet.

:) I love me some Carson! Thanks for your kindness.
The photo is several months old. But my goal is to get back there. It shouldn't take long since I'm being relatively pro-active this time!

I never cared for sweets. Even as a kid. To this day, I might have a piece of cake at a birthday party, but chocolate or ice cream or such is usually more rich than I'm into.

Exercise? Yeah...too much.

Treadmill...get one that you can hook into your computer. You can then have virtual races! I have that, but haven't done that.

Stand up punching bag...perfect to work out arms, legs...you can even take it off the stand, lie it on the floor and use it to do sit-ups for the lower rectus abd muscles and then put your legs on it to do upper rectus ab crunches.

Jump rope...cheapest and best way to get aerobic exercise...20 minutes between calesthenics - great work out...

Video tapes and a mat, with hand weights and a medicine ball..

Good luck! :kiss:es

Then truly, you are of the elect. Lucky sod.

Sometimes I think I have only one favorite food. To some extent, I do. It's whatever I happen to be eating at the moment.

I've never been able to sustain any home workout routine ... for me, I need to be surrounded by others .. the group environment wherein everyone motivates and spurs on the others .. also having a perky, energetic instructor at the front of the class helps a LOT!

so.... I go to aerobics at least 3x a week in the winter ... works for me

then in the summer, I get together with a few friends for running ... again the "group" thing .. about 3x a week.

Get a dog. The twice daily walks and such are great. Of course, I have the opposite problem.. I am chronically underweight. So may I have your sweets please, Joe? I am really partial to chocolate.
