Whispersecret is not only a brilliant writer (she doesn't waste a word -- no excess fat anywhere!), but writes articles such as Choosing the Right Words. I've also read several of her stunning critiques on the discussion boards as well.

I tip my hat to you, Whispersecret, as you are passing your knowledge on to others. So unselfish.

Your writing is wonderfully engaging. I do not know you, nor have I ever contacted you, but I wanted to thank you, publicly.

You're a writer's best friend!

I highly recommend Whispersecret. Do yourself a favor and read her stories and articles:

Holy crap. Whenever I see threads like this here, I always suspect it's really the author him/herself coming in under an alias to toot their own horn, but unless I have multiple personality disorder, this MissVirgin has come out of the woodwork to surprise me.

MissVirgin, thanks so much for the effusive praise. As much as I appreciate it, you're quite wrong! If I have no fat on my stories, it's because...

a) ...you're not sharply critical enough to see it there. Believe me, it's there. I very often overstate situations and repeat myself.

b) ...I rewrite until I'm blue in the face. That is the main reason why I am such an abyssmally slow writer.

c) I spout off so much here on this forum and in my how-tos, that if I don't "put my money where my mouth is," I'd never be able to show my face. If I'm going to slash and burn other people's stories in my critiques, I'd damn well better self-slash and self-burn my own stuff. Otherwise, who'd respect my feedback?

I'm not a writer's best friend. I'm a sort of on-the-sidelines know-it-all type meddler. Sometimes I'll sweep in to this forum and splatter my opinions on this or that willy-nilly, usually full of righteousness and confidence. Sometimes, I'll just sit on the side (as in my 500 Word thread) like a spider and wait for you to come to me. Then, watch out! Because you will have asked for it then, and I have carte blanche to pummel you.

And lastly, I'm very selfish. I'm just good at making people think I'm not. :)

Quod erat demonstrandum

Dear Whispersecret,

I'd say that the mere fact that you recognize your own "shortcomings" already puts you a step ahead of most writers. You also possess the talent to be modest about yourself. The danger of most erotica is that it never comes further than tickling your own genitals (or imagination), while the trick of making it hot for others to read is in being able to relay your " erotic insight" to other peoples' minds.
Writing good erotica is like good cooking: you have to have a feel for what to add in, and what to leave out.

Please continue to enjoy showing us at least one way to do it right :)
