Evidently several of you own ferrets...

Weasel war!

Agreed re pairs. I didn't have the option with Olivia, unfortunately. With Oliver, I've had him for about two months now and I've yet to take a shower that at some point he wasn't a part of. Part duck that one.

What toys do they have? Need to get Oliver some new ones.

We bought them toys early on, and then quickly found out that they will ignore those and end up playing with random shit in the house.

Even a plastic grocery bag. They'll roll around in that for a while. They love new boxes, they'll climb all over them for a couple of days. Then get bored until the next box.

But they have balls they play with, toys we dangle for them that they fight much like a kitten. they love to run through tunnels. So we got them some of those. (we use the drier tubes you can buy at places like walmart)

But we do have to be careful about the material a toy is made out of. Sasha and Ferra like to steal my wife's hairbrushes. Which is fine with Ferra, she just steals things (like wii remotes and shoes, loves to drag shoes around looking for some place to put them) but sasha will bite on the items. And it's dangerous if they get rubber or some materials in their digestive tract.

We at one point introduced kittens to them, that were much bigger. Ferra was initially scared but warmed up. And booboo played with them. And by play, he dommed them and took them down by the neck to make them his bitch. And they were huge compared to him (we since adopted those kittens out, more trouble than their worth, bleh stupid cats)

Do you bathe your ferrets? Use any special shampoos? Ours had their glands removed but do get an odor after a while without a bath.

Ditto on the toys, though they both like to play with those jingle balls that come with their litter.

Shampoo, yes: http://www.ferret.com/item/marshall-baking-soda-ferret-shampoo/650702/ . Both are de-scented, but as you point out, they still retain their musk and Oliver more so than Olivia.

I bath them about once every six weeks, more frequently in the summer when they'll go on a leash and in the garden.

Marshall has some good products. They definitely prefer the food we get them from Marshall. It's better quality than the other ones we see at local pet stores. Pet stores mark that shit way up too. The Marshall food we buy on amazon is so much cheaper than the Marshall food at pet supply stores.

We use a different shampoo but I might try that one out. The youngest gets the least odor. Booboo will generate a greater musk and more quickly. But we give them all baths at the same time, or else stinky is sleeping with the other two and infecting them with the smell.

I use Zupreem Grain-Free for both straight from the local Petco. They really go to town with it.

Though Oliver has taken a liking to dog food. Whenever the pup refuses to eat her breakfast, I bring him into the kitchen and when the pup sees him eating her food, she suddenly gets hungry too.

Animals...go figure.

I had a ferret 20 years ago. It made it's own toys. Whatever was around the house quickly became his toy. I gave him a bath monthly. He quickly became stinky if I waited longer. Back then I was told crunchy kitty food for his diet.

I didn't have him for more than a year. I had to move and he couldn't go with me. Gave him to a couple of kids who worked for me. I was sad but they gave him a happy home.

I don't allow rodents in my house.

Ferrets are awesome.

I fostered a male for about 3 months several years ago.

The kiddo fell in love with him.

I was glad to see him adopted out though, as he had chewed a lair/nest into the bottom of every piece of furniture in my home.

New couches, chairs, box springs...

Time for another ferret foster.

That's what rodents do.

My dog would rip a ferret to shreds.

She goes ballistic when she sees a squirrel.

Yup.

I had a lab that actually dug up and killed star moles and presented them at the door step like a cat will with a mouse.

Still, I liked the little fuck.

Your babies are beautiful! And frankly I've never had better pets than ferrets. They're kind of like cats in a way except these you can cage, they don't meow and they can't jump up on counter tops.

I try to bathe our babies about once a week, though sometimes it's twice. We use to wait but I couldn't take it and frankly since they don't put up too much of a fight I started doing it often. I use to use ferret specific shampoos but felt like not only are they overpriced they just didn't make them smell that great, so now we use a lot of baby shampoo/soaps and on occasion dawn (which is really good if they, or any type of animal, have fleas.)

Have you ever tried feeding yours baby food? Our boy lost a bit of weight and after researching we started giving him a bit of Gerber's blue label baby food in turkey or chicken mixed up with a bit of water. They all love it and it's good for their coats as well.

Do you give yours Ferret lax aka Ferret Crack? Law, our fur babies will harass the heck out of you for that stuff. They love it so much that even just smell can wake them from a dead sleep.

Here's a picture of our boy just this past summer -

Our oldest gal doesn't sit still for the camera unless sleeping and the youngest can lay there long enough to have some taken but we've been really slack about it .

ADORABLE animals is what they are.

He's trying to fight a balloon that has become hopelessly wrapped around him. (crappy valentines balloon that our daughter got a few years ago at our old house, she let the ferrets have at it)

They are awesome animals that you would be happy to have in your home.

*he may be yawning at said balloon.

I would not be happy having them in my home.

I knew people with them and I don't see the attraction.

I would rather own a goat.

I've never tried baby food; other than Oliver liking dry dog food, neither has shown any interest in other food. Olivia did get into some chocolate once...that was an expensive vet bill and consultation with animal poison control.

I did have to give Olivia strawberry-flavoured lax when I switched her food several years ago. The new one made her constipated, so back to the original food we went.

Little nuggets!

They love the baby food and it helps fatten the older two up. They both dropped weight recently, which is worrisome.

We try not to overdo it with treats like the lax and marshal treats. They do love coconut oil.

They get the lax if it seems they're working on hairballs or they swallowed something that isn't going down well.

They are simply insane when the lax comes out. I guess it's the normal flavor stuff, we never got a special flavor type. Might have to try that stuff. But you can see the noses start twitching as soon as the lax tube comes out. Don't even have to take off the cap and they're clambering for it.

And yea we have to keep ours away from chocolate. booboo especially. he nosed around in a big bowl of Halloween candy maybe 2 years ago, and then acted like he was in heaven just from smelling it all.

I will admit that the albino ones creep me out some.

Their red eyes look evil.

Are you sure that top one isn't a possum?

Lol, she does favor a possum look. Or did more so early on. She has now fattened up. She's a hulk now. So her face has kind of widened and fattened. So it seems less possumy.

Ferra, the white one, does have the evil red eye look sometimes. And she has this knack for creeping you out. You turn to look at something and you just see her disembodied head coming through the couch cushions staring at you. She may be possessed by a ferret demon of some sort.

Let see 'em.
