The good news for Doors fans is that Jim Morrison's grave is now the fifth most popular tourist attraction in Paris.

The bad news is, the French want to evict him. How rude!

He's buried in Paris? How come?

#L, fan of music, knows nothing of artists

Jim Morrison had moved to Paris, the former home of the French fin de siecle poets Rimbaud and Baudelaire, who had greatly influenced his work with all their purple decadence. He died there in 1971 of a heart attack while in a bath tub.

Supposedly, drugs weren't involved, but his body was only seen by his manager and his wife, and his death was kept secret for 3-4 days, by which time he was already buried. There were even rumours that he faked his own death and is still alive, like Elvis. But Morrison was always bent on self-destruction and wanted to burn out before he just faded away.

Good thumbnail overview, Doc. I was in NYC when the news came out and remember one station playing "Riders of the Storm." That was a spooky time. It seemed like dying had become THE fad among rock stars.

Rumple Foreskin

those damn french should be happy that Jim Morrison's grave is getting attention. it means money for them! Course in my opinion they don't deserve money but hey thats another story. They should just leave Jim alone and let him rest in peace.

RIP Jim! I may not have known your music for long until after your death but you are great!

Drugs were rarely involved.

Why didn't someone name a band Purple Decadence?

I hope he gets evicted. He should not rest in the same grounds as Oscar Wilde.

OK, used 'find a grave'. Sartre is in Cimetiere de Montparnasse, Camus in Lourmarin Cimetiere. Can't find what happened to Barthes' body; fitting, will have to reread his Death of the Author. P.

Alphabetically, of course.

Since when do "Tragic Lovers" merit a more glamorous burial site than the sexy voice of "Riders On The Storm."

Silly French.

Sher, I saw/heard him in person in 1970, never found him or his voice the least bit sexy.

Abelard and Heloise: their letters are poetry. JM's lyrics are not.

Those were the days, weren't they?

God yes. Wish some others would now!

Did anyone else here see Oliver Stone's Doors film? I'm not a Val Kilmer fan, but I have to say it was a remarkable performance. Eerie, in fact, more like a case of possession than acting. He did some of his own singing, intermingled with Morrison's, and it was seamless.

An interesting movie. I'm not sure I buy the business about Morrison killing JFK so he could be with Jackie, but Stone's logic is hard to refute.
