European Armaments Manufacturers

A Small fact: Henry Ford supplied his last army truck to the German Army in November 1943 - two years after that country declared war on the USA.

A Big fact: The USSR's Red Army won WW2. Everything else was a sideshow.
I wouldn't go that far, but as I said before, it was a big mistake to turn on them. It opened up a new front, which stretched the German army to breaking point. The Russians had virtually no air power when Germany attacked them. They were ill-equipped and short of ammunition. The Germans thought that a show of overwhelming force would soon subdue them. They committed a number of atrocities, which were supposed to make the Russians afraid. What it did was foster hatred and a determination to get revenge. Monte Casino was an example of that hatred. When allied forces eventually felt able to launch an attack, it was the Russian troops they sent in first. They knew the Russians would take no prisoners. As forces converged on Berlin, there are a number of incidents of German troops running from the Russians in order to be taken prisoner by either the British or the Americans. It was the Germans who ended up being afraid.

Noooooooo. This is so incorrect but I don't have time now. Later.

I'm reading a book called Soldaten about German POWs and their conversations which were eavesdropped on, and they talk about interesting things. The chapter I'm in now was how the army put up with and responded to last man/last bullet orders. Some caved, others quit after a bit, and many didn't quit until they had nothing left to fight with.

The war in the east was one of annihilation. Both sides. It was more standard warfare in the west. If the Russians are driving you asses to the west, then might as well go that way to surrender while you're at it.

Ain't happening Wat. When people talk about the Soviet Army in WW2, they forget that the Red Army's most effective units were ....wait for it.....Ukrainian, and some of there more effective commanders too. Cossack units always were the elite of the Russian armies - under the Tzars and under the Soviets. Nothing's changed. Russians formed the stoic infantry units with no initiative that stood there and died while the Cossacks attacked. Under the Tzars, the Cossacks were the Tzar's knout, loyal to the Tzar and the spear to the infantry's club. We're seeing the samr thing play it here. The Russians are being Russians, and the Ukrainians are in fact the Cossacks - fighting smart, fighting to their strengths, and taking advantage of the Russians weaknesses and inability to adapt. The Russian army is getting progressively weaker, and the Russian economy is being destroyed, while the Ukrainian military grows stronger and stronger. Note also what we are NOT seeing. Barely a glimpse of ZSU IFV's and tanks in action. It's all drones and infantry and there are a fair number of ZSU units that are being held back.

Also the ZSU is restructuring into their new Corps formations, with experienced Corps commanders from the best performing units taking command and reshaping the units within their Corps - armored units for instance are being reshaped into mechanzed brigades, Drone units are enlargng and are now pervasive across the ZSU, with an evolving doctrine. Ukrainian air support is now more apparant as the Russian air defence unbrella is picked apart. You don;t see any ZSU major attacks - only localized defensive attacks taking advantage of Russian weaknesses to elimimate Russian units and push them back here and there. Russian command structures are being eliminated. Russian ammo and stoage depots taken out. Logistics hit. Key partsof the Russian military supply chain are being rogressively taken out. Russia is attacking, but the ZSU is carrying out a long term shaping operation....

And Europe has finally gotten their ass into gear, along with Trump seemingly now startuing to send renewed military aid to Ukraine - altho so far its mostly talk, but we'll see. Whatever happens though, Russia is doomed and will disintegrate. Putin has effectivelt destroyed Russia and he has no way out of this. Russia cannot win, Putin can't stop - he's started a war he can no longer halt without losing his life, and he seems reluctant to die. a ZSU offensive later this summer, as the Russian summer offensive grinds to a halt, may well be the straw that bring sabout a Russian military collapse if it's effectuve enough - or it may come next year as the Ukrainian drone war becomes all pervasive.

"Cossacks...." one of the great scenes of Soviet cinema, and if you've never watched Sergei Eisenstein's 1925 "Battleship Potemkin," it's worth watching both from a historical POV and as great cinema
