“Could America Be Next?!” – Anti-Woke Parties Dominate European Elections
1 Comment / By Shay Bottomley / June 10, 2024The European Union’s 27 member states held concurrent elections to decide the make-up of the 720-seat European Parliament, which sits on a five-year term. The elections, held over four days from June 6 – June 9, were the first to be held since the United Kingdom left the EU.
The right-wing National Rally topped the polls in France with 31.5% of the vote, prompting President Emmanuel Macron to call a snap parliamentary election for the start of July.
In Germany, Alternative für Deutschland (Alternative for Germany) saw major gains thanks to overwhelming support in the country’s east, while Austria saw the populist Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs (Freedom Party of Austria) scored the most seats of the country’s 20-member delegation with six candidates elected.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni saw her Fratelli d’Italia (Brothers of Italy) party top the polls in the Mediterranean nation with more than 28% of the vote, while Spanish right-wing parties beat the left by more than 10% across the sea.
