Euro2004 support thread

That's it.
I can't watch.
Turning it off.
My old heart can't take the strain.

Let me know when its over.

Mat

Sorry Lou . . . and the rest. But my tension headache is subsiding. Contgrats Lauren!!!! and the rest. LOL, the rest being who? Neon? lol

What a bloody incredible game!

Amazing stuff, Portugal never gave up, had most of the ball and finally one through.

The noise outside is deafening. Great to see people so very happy.

It wouldn't be so bad if Campbell hadn't had that goal disallowed right at the last minute of normal time. Can anyone explain that?

Anyway, congrats, Lauren. I hope Portugal go on to win it now, and I sincerely mean that.

Um, I bought me some Portuguese players this afternoon.

:D

Truly sorry for you Lou, Paul, Angel.

Woohoo!!!!!

Lauren, party time!!!

I haye penalty shoot-outs soooo much.

Well done, Laur. You were the better team on the night, though England will always remember the goal that wasn't given. I guess this means you've won the Fantasy league too...

Yep, that cannot be taken away from Portugal. They were the better team on the night, and did deserve to win it.

I just hate penalty shoot outs.

Lou

The BBC couldn't understand it either. I didn't see it, so can only say that the announcers mentioned something about hitting the post and not going in. In the same breath they complained about the swiss refs, which I think the nationality you politely re-named shite?

:D

The goal would have been allowed in the Premiership, which is why England will be uptight about it... rreally, most of us know that on the continent you can't challenge the 'keeper at all. It's just a difference of emphasis that looks important right now.

I'm hoping I won't need the consoling hugs returned tonight.

Unfortunately you do ... so big *HUGS* to you sweetie. :rose:

That was the best game so far at the Euro. Both teams were good. That first goal was (luck, ok) really incredible.

But you already said it Lou, Portugal was just the better team and although I think they are a bunch of sissies (except Figo), they deserved the win.

On the other hand ... I am pretty sure, if Rooney wouldnt have been injured he would have shot them out of the tournament.

Damn ... I rooted (and predicted) for England, but why in the world did Beckham shoot this penalty? And missed it god damn it ...

Anyways ... a word to the goal which was not given (well, some might say Germany has some experience with this :D ). As someone said earlier ... here on the continent, the goalie within his 5 meter room is untouchable. He is a holy cow and the descision was right. Unfortunately this was the same referee who whistled a penalty against England at either the 2000 Euro or the 2002 WC ... dunno which.

All in all ... one of the most tense football games I have ever seen (and I am not even that much of a football fan). Gratz to Portugal, but our commentator was right ... nobody should have won tonight and there should be a semi with 5 teams (however that may work).

I hedged my bets from the outset being English living in Portugal. My English (and French) Fantasy team lost, but my Portuguese Preditor team WON with Joker!

I can now throw myself fully behind Portugal and France for the remainder of the tournament having had my FF made of English and Portuguese until today.

It was a great game, the English bit of me is disappointed, the Portuguese bit delighted, just like all the people milling around outside kicking up the most God awful noise, no sleep for me tonight.

Edit to add SHITE - the Predictor result only counts up to extra time, according to Predictor the result is a draw - No points to me.

Good game - not always pretty play, but dramatic entertainment at it's best. Portugal will be a bitch for either the swedes or the dutch to meet in the semi.

About the disallowed goal from Campbell. Sol was clean, but the other guy (Lampard? Owen? Can't remember.) was a bit rough with the goalie, holding him down for leverage. Rough enough for the ref to call? Beats me.

Anyway, interresting night. Comforting hugs to the anglaise and congratulations to Portugal.
