Euro2004 support thread

Actually, Laur.. think about it... it has to be across the group. If two teams are tied, and they drew, their Goal Diff and Goals scored would be the same. So, as it stands, Sweden are +5, Denmark +2 and Italy 0. If Sweden and Denmark draw, then Italy go through (at the expense of Denmark) by beating Bulgaria 3-0, or 4-1.

Paul .. Lauren is right. It will only be between the nations involved if there is a 3-way tie.

A draw will be a great result for us (thanks Zlatan) and the Italians are already scared that our game against the danes will end 2-2.
A 1-1 and 2-0 Italy - Bulgaria and Italy will be in the next round based upon the Fifa (or if it is the Uefa) rankings.

I think it is time that the other nations starts to realise that the Latvians are no easy game. We had them in our group in the qualifications and then they kicked out Turkey in the playoffs so Germany should have been warned.

Off to see Holland against the Czechs.

Hello, TKitty!

NL 2 - 0 CZ

The second goal Van Njistoroi was miles off side, stupid goal to allow (I'm on a Predictor draw:D )

Yep! This is a good match. We're only 25 minutes in!
I want it 3-3 with Davids, Nedved and that other Czech guy Uj whatever yellow carded or sent off... and taken off before 60 mins that way Lauren won't go ahead of me on points :D

The ref is CRAP.
One of the internet commentators said about the ref 'He's so vain, it's a good job there's no mirror on the pitch'.

I think he's using a compact - he's not watching the game!

In agreeance here!!

I'v just been checking the rules of transfers on the FF after the next round of game (e.g after the group stage is done) we can make transfers for free... as may as we like as long as we can afford the palyer we buy we won't be deducted points for making more then one transfer (Yes major changes headed to my team!!)

Well that's a bummer! I thought I'd gain ground in the rest of you after my team of English and Portuguese players enter the final stages (I've got a big 2 days coming up :D ). Instead you lot get to cover your poor selections for free. I'm going to lodge a complaint!

Sorry but thats the way it goes...

Speaking of going... Vieira is leaving my team when I get the chance unless he bucks his ideas up... same goes for Henry!!

Got to feel for the Dutch, but what an awesome game of football.

The only outcome in this group that makes any sense now is for the Dutch to take Latvia, and the Czechs to send the Germans home. Two great teams... 90 mins of heaven.

What a Manager that neonlyte, hauled his team off the dirt in the first round, switched the formation, ignoring the cries of the press core, and watched his team storm into first place in the second round. :D

I'm still miffed you get 'free transfers' after this round to compensate for your wholly inadequate team choices.

Lou

P.S. Hehehe!

Thnx Lou, I needed that. Oh well, I'll stop predicting anyways. Seems that this tournament everything runs against me.
After the goalless draw by germany I thought it'll be over for them.
But after the great game Holland-Chechz Republic (which I didn't see of course, :( grrrrrr ) I think it's not impossible for germany to advance.
They have to beat the Chechz, who are through already and don't HAVE to give everything they have, Holland is under a lot of pressure and have to beat Latvi, which could also go through if they should win (that should be quite encouriging for them).
So I could figure germany advancing along with Chechz Republic.
However there is a major problem for the german players. In order to to win a game you have to score at least one goal. :(

Dick Advocaat = coach of the Dutch team

Wouldn't call him a 'coach' - last night he was more like a bicycle with a puncture.

The game changed so much after he substituted the guy (whose name I forget but it began with R) who was opeing the pitch up for you. Devastating substitution, what's worst is the team may be demoralised by the 'coach' throwing away the game.

Was he injured?

NL

The player was Robben, fairly new kid on the team. He has suffered a hamstring twice recently, but that's only guessing. There was nothing wrong with him yesterday.

Why do you think I put up that sign?

:D

Well, as of today, all the "if they beat them, and we draw with them, but they don't score more than two" stuff starts to come to an end. I can't imagine a bigger game for the tournament than Spain vs Portugal today. Sadly, I have to hope Laur's boys lose, because I have four Spaniards in my FF team... but it's going to be 90 mins of TV to remember, I am sure.

I feel bad for the Dutch after yesterday, but at least they know now that they just have to turn up, whip Latvia and listen for the other score...

Holland could fall apart if this BBC interview is accurate, Coach blaming the players for not scoring, ref for the red card, and the leading players blaming the coach for losing them the game!

Holland coach Dick Advocaat insisted his decision to switch tactics did not lead to defeat by the Czech Republic.

The Dutch held a 2-1 lead when Advocaat substituted winger Arjen Robben for Paul Bosvelt in the second half.

"Everyone is talking about my substitution that didn't work out but no one is talking about all the chances that we missed," said Advocaat.

"I substituted Robben because I wanted more grip on the midfield," added Advocaat.

"Even without Robben we created four or five good chances. At 2-1 we had lots of chances to make it three or 4-1."

Advocaat instead blamed Johnny Heitinga's red card in the 75th minute for the change in Holland's fortunes.

"It was very difficult after that. But we should have been well ahead by then.

"The team was changed and we lost the initiative," said Van Nistelrooy. The Manchester United player suggested Robben's substitution did turn the tide in the Czechs' favour.

"We should never have let the game slip out of our hands. That was totally unnecessary."

Can't see it being a happy training ground today and I will be really p****d if Holland disintegrate and let Germany through, I didn't think they handled Latvia very well at all.
