I dont usually post BC stuff in here, because I think there are a grand total of 6 left coast Canadians on the Gb.. but had to say something

the Liberal Party here in BC has been caught with its pants down over a memo detailing " ethnic wooing"

it's a relatively standard policy in polititics to cater different styles of campaigns to different groups... more jobs the poor, tax breaks for the righ, amnesty for immigrants, yadda yadda

but Christy Clark took it an insulting step further..in which , as the memo noted, targets certain ethnic groups to deliver apologies to and campaign .. for" quick wins"

that's it; quick wins

the government didn't give a crap about anybody in these targeted groups outside of their voting block..that much has been shown to be clear

so where does the concern for the citizenry end and the partisan hackery for thier votes begin?

Politicians are politicians all over the world.

Sounds like a fairly standard political tactic (as you stated), but with an obnoxious name, which seems to be the actual controversy here.

I don't see anything wrong with campaigns targeting votes they think are winnable and ignoring demographics that they sense are not. I had a Wall Street Journal subscription back in college, because they had a student rate and it was of use in some of my coursework. I got sent Republican/conservative direct mail based off of that subscription for years...suckers.

Before all the wingnuts jump on your reference to the Liberals with comments about how this proves that all leftists are moral degenerates (leaving aside that the Liberals aren't even Canada's party of the left), I would point out that those who are white very often also have a sense of themselves as a distinct ethnicity, one very much subject to "wooing" by at least one of our leading North American political parties. Care to guess which one I'm referring to?

Is this the party that just published its' publish or perish paper?

Yes, I suppose I should clarify again what Liberal means in Canada

federal Liberal Party = middle right to center

but BC's Liberal party is something different

BC Liberal party = neo-conservative to middle right

the BC Liberal party has strong ties to the harper Conservative party, back in the 80's after the Social Credit Party (very conservative party) dissolved ..they jumped ship to the small struggling libertarian Liberal party.. and took it over

to clarify more about the ethnic wooing scandal is that the memos detailed making apologies directly to communities for past injustices.. such as the Komagatu Maru incident, the Japanese internment, etcetera.. solely for votes

plus the Liberal party paid for consultants out of taxpayer money to find groups for them to apologize to.. instead of their own private party money.. which is a violation of ethics law

not only that, they lied about it as well and tried to conceal it behind walls and walls of the FOI Act, so much so that the Liberal party has denied more freedom of information access requests than any party in the history of BC

theLiberal party is going down in flames in BC, and scrambling for anything to keep them afloat
