My protagonist is about to turn 40, recently divorced and quits his job.

1. Meets a lovely girl in the mountains where he is hiking

2. Picks up two Italian hitchhikers

3. Encounters an older couple on a cruise which has a slight BDSM passion

4. Stays in a small B&B with a black widowed owner.

5. Maybe, not sure yet, he might come back to the mountain girl.

All this plotted into an adventure story, more kind of a novel, including a case of debts to pay of a solving a robbery case and investment deals.

Sounds pretty ridiculous when I read what I wrote as my plot, but it is actually fun writing. Ah and one fetish that might make the plot even less interesting for the readership. All my female protagonists, with the exception of the two Italian hitchhikers, are very curvy, voluptuous, chubby, BBW - you name it.

What are your thoughts?

Works for me! :)

Actually, you have an "arc" issue when there is just a series of disconnected encounters. Yes, the protagonist is the same, but what connects the stories? are they just separate stroke stories woven together? That's doable, but if one is thinking more "novel" like, then there has to be something more than random hookups driving the story. Maybe there is something about the type of sex, each pushing him in new directions; or the people, each making him realize something about himself; or the places he meets them - maybe, without realizing it, they are places he had been with his ex-wife on their own travels in the past, invoking either a sense of loss or a renewal of self, independent of his controlling/abusive ex???

Just some thoughts...

Good point. There ist a connection and each encounter fits like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle to form the complete picture.

Nothing wrong with that. It's easier on the reader. They can read one, all, some, and in any order. I have a series called "X on the road" about a traveling businessman who has various sexual encounters on his trips, but they don't have a sequence or arc.

Two buddies, not queer, lose their wives (tragic traffic accident while shopping together) and decide to quit their jobs and drive cross-country. They stop in many villages, encounter people and their problems, and get fucked regularly. All very episodic, like TV's Route 66 for LIT audiences.

Call it "Route 69."

I know this isn't part of the OP, but

What if two people are killed in a tragic car accident - each married. It turns out they were having an ongoing affair. The surviving spouses of course are shocked at the discovery, angry, bitter, and decide to meet to discuss what happened. The man informs her that he just sold his business, bought an RV and is hitting the road. She was a housewife, no job, no commitments - "can I join you?" While their connection grows, they are not committed to one another and start to push one another in having new and different kinds of sexual experiences, sometimes together, sometimes on their own that they then relate. They travel around the country, fucking, sucking, and seducing others...
